Tarzan Shack bonsai
Any one remember a small dio, where I had a junker Barracuda in a bonsai planting of elm trees ? That went over big with my bonsai friends.
Well, my bonsai club wasn't going to have a meeting the Saturday after Thanks giving, so there was nothing planned. The Pres has decided to have a meeting anyway and asked me to do a program on combining my two hobbies.
I spend HOURS just scratch building just one part, and was perplexed as to what to do.
Hit on the idea of using an old dead Buttonwood tree carcass and a grove of Florida Swamp Maples ( Acer Rubrum, for the rivet counters) that I have and make components up and just put them together at the meeting. Thinking a Tarzan shack with vines and stuff.
My first effort was making a platform on the Buttonwood.
In on my bench, I am making a shack for the platform. Popsicle sticks faced with bamboo tips that I have pruned from a stand of black bamboo that I have out in the yard.

Nice! I'm not into bonsai myself but am appreciative of the art behind it. Love the idea of fronting popsicle sticks with bamboo

Don't have all of the bamboo facing done yet, but here it is mocked up out on it's platform.

Love the way it looks, very much the idea of a 'jungle hide away.'

Creative, cute, clever. Long ago when terrariums and indoor plants were THE thing, I thought of bonsai. The long term care and slow development of the plants made it not my hobby. Glad you weren't deterred as I was. Fine work!
