Not really a race car but it's a drag type thing so thought it was ok here ... if needs moving then so be it !!

as per usual i'll be trying to add as much detail into it as possible, the main paint job is still under debate but i want to get away from the normal yellow

Motors going together ok ... very few issues with fit, just a slightest amount of flash to clean up

The chrome is acceptable, just a few touch ups needed at the sprue-cuts and i'll probably give it a dry brush with gunmetal just to give it a slightly rubbed/worn effect on the raised surfaces.





I'm presuming Part 9 (ringed) is supposed to be the dizzy???

Colin..... if they don't have the little 'pips' at the top, they could well be side entry versions or even magneto's.

This is one of them ... not sure if these motors are based on anything real ....... i suppose i could find something very similar online and then base these two on that ???

Looks like a Magneto Colin, as Al says the plugleads would probably go in from the side.
There could be an easy way out, just thinking of how Tamiya wire the 1/20 F1 Coswoth DFV engines.

Drill one hole through it just big enough for 4 wires, thread them half way through and you have 8 plug leads, 4 on each side and no need for 8 tiny holes, they only need to be glued into the cylinder heads then, not the dizzy/magneto.

I'm not familiar with this engine but I'll be at the bus stop waiting to see how this how this develops.

they're both 426 Hemis I think Denis, so the plug leads would go into the valve covers.

My guess would be magnetos Colin. Do like Shay suggests, drill a hole straight through and insert four HT leads.

Ok had a look around and got the jist of these hemi things with magnetos .....

This is not beyond my abilities ...... opinions ???

Easy peasy lemon squeezey Colin. Hemis are the easiest V8 to wire.

Go for it, going straight through the magneto would be easier though. Best of luck!

YES, when I built I would just have them coming out opposite sides on the top portion of the magneto. Easier to work on and drill if the chrome is removed. Engine foto shows where leads to the spark plugs go in the valve covers. Best o' luck! Lousy day here in the U.S. Midwest, cold rainy, windy.

It is a Joe Hunt-Vertex magneto. I just drill straight through the cap side to side and stick the wires in. then route them to the plugs. The Hemi engine under went a couple changes. The early Hemi's (like the 392) had the distributor in the rear. When they Build the 426 Hemi the distributor was moved to the front of the engine. The reason for that was the 426 Hemi was just a 426 Max Wedge engine with Hemi Heads on it and the distributor was already in the front of the engine. Looking at the location of the distributor or Magneto is a first tip as to the year of the Hemi engine.

Thanks for the info everyone, i sort of combined everything to get what i like the look of with a little extra detail.

Dechroming the pully belt (normally i'd just dip or paint it with liquid poly (mek) and let it dry .. this gives a nice key to acrylic paint for a tip)

The rear tyres are rubber and in two halves, badly fitting halves i may add ... superglue did it (although this meant holding the two halves in position and squeezing glue inside then letting it runn around and find its place) ... i'll trim and fill the slick then paint with tyre black

Looking good Colin. Great subject you use your checker cutting technique on, a nice flat roof. Those are some big A$$ blowers, the engines and mags are coming along nicely.

Nice scratch building on the mags, belt looks great too. I can't say I had the pleasure of "halfsies" for tires, looks like a real pain. Did Ikea buy out Revell?

They're sanding back reasonably ok .. will give them a coat of tyre black with some bicarb mixed in on the slick area to give a little scuffed texture when they're as good as i can get them .

The exhausts were just a solid rod really, rather than drill each of them out i decided to give them all an 45 deg end can mad out of styrene tube of just slightly over diameter.








Will look better when they're painted gunmetal and have some matt black in the tube end methinks
