Post by Geezerman Sun 20 Mar 2016, 7:27 pm

Hoping to get a killer street machine with this !
'58 Plymouth Belvedere 50283314
Starting in using the engine from a  Jolly Rancher dragster kit.
First, changing the drag tranny for a street tranny from the salvage yard.
'58 Plymouth Belvedere 000_2860_zpsaxo8gf0d

Of the dragster kits I looked at, they all seemed to have about the same scoop. I want a bug catcher/butterfly like my little sketch. It appears I'll have to make one. Problem is, I don't know what to properly call it and I'm having trouble locating some nice reference fotos. So, I'd appreciate any help I can get. I'm pretty sure I will be able to make my own.

Thanks.

Monday morning start on the induction. Too bad I don't have a good Micro camera !
I'm going for a 2 holer to tame it down some for a street machine. I need to pull off of it to get the visor on the woody.

Thanks, Max, but I've plowed ahead. I made a block out of some plastic stock and used 3 pieces of 1/4 inch aluminum, one for the base and two for the butterflies. Now, all I have to do is carve the body !

Just so ya know..... it ain't easy being Geezey
I had this all roughed in pretty close and in a coat of white primer, then I realized that it looked too short.
'58 Plymouth Belvedere 000_2886_zpssrmp46lg

OK. I thought I could cut it apart, even though I had pinned it pretty good, and put a spacer  between the parts. I did get it apart and then added 1/8 " plastik between them.
'58 Plymouth Belvedere 000_2887_zpsdzbwhaju

Gluing it back together (with more pins) I had to make an adjustment using a heavy pair of pliers. The whole thing gave away and FUBARed.
I'll be starting completely over in the morning!

I'm modifying the Belvedere's rear end and frame to take the wider slicks I'm resorting to.
Rehashing a homemade wheel tub assembly to be visible thru the windows. This foto is trial fitting for clearances. I have that roughed in now, and am working on the front end. Reversing the spindles and reinstalling them on the opposite side. I'll have to change the tie rod assembly for it to pass below the frame again.

I should have pictures of some of this tomorrow.
