The instrument panel looks like the hounds doodahs Colin!!!
I think you would get a better 'lens' effect by using two part clear epoxy though.

Hi Colin,
Looking great Sir, never thought of using Tippex, does it sand and paint over ok...

Better than the proprietary brands Andy, easier to apply, easier to sand back, nice and fine so you can fill even the shallowest of cracks...... and about a tenth of the cost.

Great idea to use tippex Colin, thanks for that. Looking sterling all round, love the instruments.

Sorry Pete, should have made it clearer, I thought tippex was the product name worldwide.
Thanks for chipping in Gary.

oooops .... i apologise to our US brethren for my ignorance there..
Got the instrument panel finished .... there was about half a dozen used throughout 67 - early 68 apparently (according to my man at Lotus who has helped out no end) so i have a little leeway in it's design.
added toggle switches which are the end off dressmaking pins stuck on head first, when you paint the remaining shaft the head of the pin looks like a chrome base to the switch (hopefully)
the "fire pull" is just a bit of bent shaped plastic, painted red and some white decal text added.
the "start" button is a stepped bit of thin tube
the labels are insulating tape and all the decals are minute pieces of the smallest text i could find on spare decal sheets, one actually says "fuel" all the rest are portions of words and are too small to be read by the naked eye ... but ... it looks like there's something written on the tape so adds to the detailing.
Have also now got the spray ready for the body .... asked "Lotus man" and he said the closest (accounting for scale) was, amazingly, rover brooklands green ... halfords....... £6..... job done!!

That dash is the mongrels grapes Colin, I particularly like the toggle switch tip.

Thanks chaps
Apparently jubilee clips and exhaust bandage were the mechanics friend when sticking a car round a track to test .... therefor in line with what "mr Lotus man" has said.
Cut the slots for the harness ... i'm not doing the driver so i want detail in the cockpit ...
body work curing ... looks very nice in brooklands
Edit .... looks like i missed a seam on the exhaust ... dammit!!

Nice detail Colin! It all looks very realistic? I like it. And some good tips on obtaining the details.
Al, yes it is called white out here in "the colonies"!!

Re: Tamiya 1967 Lotus 49 ... 1/12 scale.
Thanks..
Onto the harnesses .... looked at the detailing parts but then drifted back to my way of thinking about modeling ... ie, i get more satisfaction by making things myself than buying a part someone else has designed. they might not be as good but it's self satisfaction i'm after in the hobby.
A couple of rolls of ribbon, some solder, styrene and wire and this is the result...
... i went for a midnight blue instead of black so it has some relief between the black of the cockpit
also touched areas with a dark matt wash to give a little grubby look to them.
The cockpit seat and side bolsters are made of childrens play foam and then brushed over with liquid poly to give a sheen to them. the press-studs are little slices of solder
the red cylinder is the top of the fire extinguisher poking through .... should be chrome but red looks better and it is after all a test car ... thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it
the flash accentuates the silky appearance of the ribbon ... it's not noticeable in daylight . it's dark here so it's an inside photo shoot lol.

Nice work Colin
That's Jim Clark's Lotus 33 from the 1963 race. The one where Parnelli Jones car dropped oil all over the track in front of Clark and where the officials refused to black flag him!!

Re: Tamiya 1967 Lotus 49 ... 1/12 scale.
I looked In my lotus book as to the history of that 92 car. the indy car was apparently a 29/3 .. which I didnt know and to be honest I would have thought they'd have used the same marks due to chapman having designed them. I checked on Jim Clark's race history and sure enough 1963 was a 29/3
I also thought 1963 debuted the 33 in f1 but it was 1964 ..... so the 25 covered the 63 championship ... good job there wasnt a quiz on it lol.
Not knowing much about indy i read about a few races off the era, the one you mention Al .. thats ridiculous about the oil leak... interesting stuff though
