Cobratee parts box build
With the MiG-125 on hold, I need something to get on with that will be pretty quick to build as the Truck Community Build starts in just over two weeks.
I also fancied a parts box build so, digging around in there, I came up with his lot:
This is what I have in mind:
Since it's a single seater, I'm thinking I might make a 'monacle' winscreen.
The chassis and suspension (minus outriggers) are from a Revell AC Cobra, the bucket T body, Turtle deck and rad surrond, are from the AMT Competition engines kit, not sure where the seat comes from or the wheels and tyres and the engine is a 2 litre Fiat 131 twin cam rally engine putting out close to 400bhp.
Should be enough don't you think?? LOL
The rear wheels inners, and outers are actually full wheels in themselves:
However, they were still too narrow, so I added some spacers...
... and now they fit:

I think Rat rod
but only so i can steal ... sorry .... "pick up" some ideas for the 31 model A that arrived this morning
*edit*
Oh yeah .... i personally think a level body looks better so a bit lower on the rear in my opinion.

Al, I would make the body even with the bottom of the chassis then you could go either rod or rat
For a rod I'd use the chrome wheels and for a rat I'd use the steelies but the front tires look to wide and to big around to me

If ya still need to ask, I would normally vote rat. But that chassis is so cool (and, after asking, yer CLEANING THE THING UP, fer crissake !) I'll go with hot rod.

Re: Cobratee parts box build
Thanks for all the input guys. Much appreciated.
Made my decision. It's going to be a rat rod with steelies and wide boots on the rear. Spokes on the front. Body will be a lot lower at the rear.
The rear track is too wide at the mo but I'll take care of that shortly.
I know pie crusts would be more traditional but I kinda like those wide boots.
The original door hinges were poorly defined, so I shaved them and replaced them.
I also added a 'ventilated' sun visor.

Re: Cobratee parts box build
Very sweet, Al. Is there any way to bring the back of the body down more so you can't see 'air' between the frame and the body?

Re: Cobratee parts box build
I would leave it as is, Al. It looks drivable now and that adds a lot to the model IMHO.

Clean - hot rod
Nasty - rat rod

Mismatch on tires, but it's your rod so do it your way. I always have loved the chopped T body, a rarity until they began reissuing iT !

Re: Cobratee parts box build
Ever since I bought the body, (years ago) it was always going to have the top opened. So I got to it.
First I drew the cutout twice on the roof. The inner line was for the holes and the outer line was for guidance when cleaning up.
When all the holes were drilled, I re-inserted the motor tool drill bit, turned it on, and with sideways pressure, it was a snap to cut through the remaining resin.
Unfortunately, the resin on the roof is quite thick. Probably just going to have to live with that though. Still a little cleanup to do I see.
I then replaced the cut out roof section with some frying pan spatter mesh.
It has the side advantage of making the interior very light and easier to see into.

Re: Cobratee parts box build
Looking great Al. Any way you can bevel the roof opening so the thickness isn't quite so obvious? Also check your PMs.
