CJ-7 Jeep Rebuild.
This is part of a CBP over at DPMCC, old glue bombs rebuild.
It's a Monogram Jeep CJ-7, released and glue bombed by me in 1978.
Pulled it apart 20 years ago to rebuild it and that is as far as I got.
It's about 90% complete.
Here is some pics from about 81/82 of how it looked originally.
I did the overnight freezer trick and managed to get the rest of the body apart.
Took awhile to fix damage from the 70's tube glue overkill.
Ejector pin city
Lots of 20 year old filler to remove
Stripped down and starting to reassemble
Some repairs
What where the tool designers thinking with this, same both sides. I can pretend it doesn't exist.
Built up the ends of the front axle to make a stronger wheel mount.
Wheel backs being redone.
Removed the worn chrome from the wheels
Filled some gaps and repaired mounts on the exhaust
Removed the fuel cans mounts
Chassis parts primed

Re: CJ-7 Jeep Rebuild.
Most of the chassis is done apart from shocks & steering gear
More body work
First coat of primer on the body

Re: CJ-7 Jeep Rebuild.
The primer showed up some sink marks were the inner panels met with the outer, so out with more putty and sanding.
Painted.
Paint is Humbrol Garter Blue satin (221). I brush painted this one as it is too cold and wet here for spraying at the moment, came out better than I expected.
Ignore what looks like dust in the paint, it started to rain again just as I took these pics
That's were I'm up to with this build, might be done this weekend.

Very nice, Steve. It's always cool to see a glue bomb resurrected. I sure wish I could brush paint like that.

I didn't check the Dras Plas site, so I don't know about the general "rules" of the community build. I'm a bit surprised you didn't make more mods to the kit if it is allowed. Box stock is fine, but those old Monograms really left a lot to be desired. The AMT Jeep line (was one the "Bushwhacker"?) had better detail (and tires) all around. You really put in the work to make it flawless box stock.

Great job on the rebuild. I have an old Jeep I need to do that to as well.

Re: CJ-7 Jeep Rebuild.
Thanks guys.
Harron, the only rule was it had to be a old built kit. There are a couple of guys doing some good and extensive reserection work, but I wanted a basic build that looked a lot better than what I did at 15.
I have enough complicated (aggravating) builds going at the moment.I do have an unbuilt AMT Jeep in my stash.

Re: CJ-7 Jeep Rebuild.
Almost done.
Finally remembered to make shock mounts and install them
Still need to make bumpers and find some tailights, and touch up paint.
Should be done this weekend, if I don't get distracted.

Re: CJ-7 Jeep Rebuild.
Shocks, good idea! It could use more detail as the Monogram kit wasn't the best. Still, nice to see an oldie. That Jeep front view is so classic!
