Black Superbird
Time to get the creative juices flowing, need another break from the wing
things. I was going to do this as a Petty NASCAR but I saw this gorgeous
all black Superbird . It reminded me of the 2004 Corvette Z06 I did in a
nice high gloss black finish. I can see this with a high gloss black body and flat
black vinyl roof and flat black headlight panels.---John

Re: Black Superbird
I have the body almost together. If you build it by the instructions
you won't get a nice smooth body, Revell has you putting the nose on
last. I am building it as a compromise, you will see the engine, from below,
I glued the hood on as to level it out, otherwise it was twisted and sat
uneven. I also put the wing and forward fender scoops on. The radiator is
also in place. When I shoot the black color I will also do the headliner
and inside of the engine bay black. The only thing I can't add is the upper
radiator hose.Everything lined up fairly good, I have a slight stick out on the
right side of the body to nose but a bit of sanding will cure that. I will let it
all set up good and in the mean time can build the engine, front suspension,
rear suspension and interior. I am not 100% on how it all goes together but
from my test fits I don't see any major problems, yet.---John

Pulling up a chair & opening a beer! I'm never a fan of glueing the nose on last- I'd rather
get the whole body together & then massage the chassis if needed to get it fitted.

Re: Black Superbird
Thanks guys, I just can't see it in any other color. I was late teens, early
20's in that era when the bird came out, never did like the caustic green or
Easter egg colors, they were classless and added nothing to the cars lines.
There's no way the nose is going to go on last and look good from both sides!
Off to start work on the engine, no wiring on this one, a waste of time.---John

Re: Black Superbird
I just found a small mistake on my part. I thought the engine was a 426 Hemi
but it seems it is actually a 440 six barrel. So I did a bit of repainting to get it
right. I will post the new paint job later tonight.---John

The only thing you should have to change is the valve cover color. Looking good.

Re: Black Superbird
Sharp looking engine John, are you going to wire it?

Re: Black Superbird
Thanks, no wiring , I glued the hood shut because it was a bit warped.
This makes 2 models in a row with good looking power plants that won't
be seen, The Mig-17F and now this. But you will be able to see this ones
bottom side at least. I got some more done. I taped off and sanded the
nose to body joint and am experimenting with the instructions painting
for the rims. They say to paint the triangular area between the spokes
gloss black, what do you think?---John
