Knight 2000 - Kitt
So here goes onto my next build, chose something with no decals this time as the last build died due to them.
Instructions say the engine should be orange?? which I decided against, so I have the normal engine colour (Tamiya flat alu) and some blue parts, the kit itself has 2 versions within the box, standard injection and a turbo one, based on Kitt being incredibly fast I opted for the turbo one..
Could anyone tell me what kind/type of engine it is please? I have had 4 AMT kits with the same engine in every time, would be nice to know, thanks
Here's whats in the box and the engine so far

Re: Knight 2000 - Kitt
Don't know what that engine is but kitts engine was a Knight Industries turbojet with modified afterburner with an eight speed microprocessor turbodrive with autopilot transmission.
I did read that it was orange but I never saw an orange engine when the bonnet was up in the back of the artic, then again I was distracted by the mechanic...... Lol.

Re: Knight 2000 - Kitt
I believe KITT was really powerd by a Pontiac Trans Am with a somewhat wimpish 150 or so BHP. If my info is correct, the colour should therefore be blue.
Engine looks good Ash.

Nice one Al, hmmm, may try wiring it, its though the cam covers where I would need to go right? and this would be a 6 cylinder though the dizzy is an 8.. (no way are you gonna get 150 BHP out of an 8 cylinder engine... unless you did something wrong like... not add all the spark plugs!)

Re: Knight 2000 - Kitt
Nope.... what you have there is a V8 Ash. The outer exhaust ports are singles while the centre one is Siamesed.
The stunt cars were lightened to 1500lbs and were fitted with NASCAR type suspension and powerful V8's so the could make the jumps.
The 'hero' car was based on a third generation Trans Am IIRC, so could well have been fitted with a straight six lump.
I don't think the (real) engine is ever seen in the car, so the kit maker probably just dumped in an already tooled up V8 to dave money.
I wouldn't worry about it though.

Re: Knight 2000 - Kitt
The kit engine looks like a Chevy small block V8. 1981 was the last year Pontiac made their own engines. After that they used the GM engine which were the Chevy engines.

Yep, it's an anemic 145 bhp 5 litre V8, the emission/smog equipment really reduced power back in the day Ash.

Forgot to comment on this Ash.
No. The engine you have there is not an OHC/Hemi unit. The plug leads go into the sides of the heads. Two in between each exhaust port.

Re: Knight 2000 - Kitt
That year of car the eninge would be a Chevy engine. either a 5 liter (305 cubic inches) or a 5.7 (350 cubic inches). Both are the same size externally. Both use the Siamese center exhaust ports. Same desing they started using in 1955 with the 265 cubic inch engine. Hope that helps some.

Ash: Its really neat that we have such a wealth of information on this forum. If you had asked me what kind of engine it is I probably would have said IT'S PLASTIC!!

Re: Knight 2000 - Kitt
Cheers guys, too true Mr J...
Update on my Kitt... Also noticed theirs no Decals in this kit at all and the instructions dont mention them either so a Lot painting buttons to come then!
Oh and snapped my drill bit so no wiring this one until I get some new ones in a few weeks.. Next build no doubt
Engine 5.something, V8, no HP, PLASTIC in blue not orange.
Tiny bit of touching up left and fan is from parts box as was missing in the kit
Chassis detailed for a refreshing change as I never do it.
Engine fitted.
Thats it for now, more next week

Good looking engine Ash.
On the broken drill bit.
Forget about buying those expensive 'packs' of drills in those 'slide' dispensers.
I buy mine off eBay from the far east. They take about a month to arrive but they are as cheap as chips and sharp too. I find the most usefull sizes are .3mm .5mm .7mm and 1.1mm.

Check out the prices. Five quid for a hundred drills. Ya can't go wrong.

Firstly... It's all looking good ash, like the detailing.
Secondly... As much as I normally don't enter into online transactions I've asked Elaine to order some of those bits for me.... Expected earliest delivery 13th Jan.... Thanks Al.

Re: Knight 2000 - Kitt
Cheers guys.
I got my drill and slider pack for less than £5 on Ebay, nice one for the links Al I'm ordering some, having only one in the sliders it does put you in a sticky spot when it breaks.. Luckily I broke it putting it into the drill and not when I was actually drilling.
Welcome to the land of internet shopping Colin, soon you will be like me... Spending half your life on Ebay and the rest at the bench :)

I really struggled with even asking Elaine to buy these bits, PayPal /eBay owe me 2300 quid from back in '04 from having my account hacked. PayPal did what they promised and gave me back the max of 500 spondos and then snubbed every contact I and my solicitor offered... Hence my boycotting them.
