Almost completed the chassis. It just needs a tacho, some pedals and a little detail painting on the controls.

OK.... I need some advice.

I want to add pedals. Trouble is..... how many?

I know I need a throttle pedal but do I need a clutch pedal or is this engine an auto?

Also, what about a brake pedal? This tanker only seems to have a GO pedal.!!

Al I would say by the picture of the chassis that it has a brake lever ( the one with the button on top ) and the clutch would be how ever you set the engine up, in&out box, 3 spd or 4 spd tranny or no clutch and an auto tranny  Belly Tanker. - Page 2 2481775780  I would set it up with a brake lever, clutch with a 3 spd tranny and a shifter, just my 2 cents worth.

That's a great model - going well.
I've had a quick zip through the build up - but what scale is it ?

Take a look at this that my son scratchbuilt 20 years ago using a 1/72nd scale Aircraft Bellytank.
Flamed Chevy is a small Hot Wheels, and Chrome wheel is 1/24th.
Bonneville racer base is less than an inch long.
....ohh for a new set of eyes !!

Thanks all.

Ron, that's a tiny tanker. Your son did well to scratch it at that size!

I found out from another site member that I only need one pedal. The throttle.

The two levers?...... one is the hand brake while the other is an in/out lever for the transmission. When ready for a run, it's put in the 'in' position, the ignition turned on and then push started with a push vehicle. Guess who is now going to have to scratch make a push bar!!! LOL

With the tank as straight as I can get it, I cut it in two just behind the driver. That done I went ahead and laid the base paint. Zero Paints Gulf Blue.

Belly Tanker. - Page 2 00635

Belly Tanker. - Page 2 00729

I also made a cushion for the driver:

Belly Tanker. - Page 2 00538

Belly Tanker. - Page 2 00247

All is not quite well though, as this latest mock up shows:

Belly Tanker. - Page 2 00333

Belly Tanker. - Page 2 00163

The slot for the steering linkage in the upper tank, appears not to be deep enough. Hopefully it's an easy fix. (Famous last words eh!!)

It's a fantastic subject - but, but, but.. what scale is it ?
It looks bigger than 1/24th scale.

Looking really nice. I tend to agree on the "one speed" in-gear or out for a trans. The runs are pretty long on the flats and gear changes less important. Gearing would be done with the quick-change rear end. My guess on why cars with batteries on board and starters needed a push bar, would be after the run and heated up and about out of gas, then a push vehicle could get it back to the work area or turned around for a run in the other direction. Runs go both ways to negate any wind aid and runs averaged. Great work so far. Thanx!

This one is on hold for a short while.

The water tank and the firewall/roll hoop, were on my bench one night and had dissapeared the following morning!!! No where to be seen despite turning the place over.  Belly Tanker. - Page 2 1757741307

Going to give it until the end of the month, to see if theyn turn up. If not, I'll have to make them!!! b

The cats blame mice!  I hate when parts go missing.  I learned never to wear sweaters while building as the sleeves pick up parts just like Velcro.  Also, it seems like parts like to leave the table for the floor, a gravity thing I guess.  Good luck and the decals/paint look absolutely perfect for the model!

Well, the missing parts failed to turn up, so I scratch built the water tank, firewall and roll over hoop. At least I got to be able to do the firewall and roll hoop, in different colours as they were molded as a unit in the original kit part.

To the water tank I added a water blow off tube made from copper wire. Copper wire was also used to plumb the brake lines. Silicone tube for the hand fuel tank pressure line and the fuel tank to carps hose.

Thin wire was used for the carbs hard line and a T connector was made from 1mm square styrene rod as were the brake line T pieces.

The 'in/out' clutch lever is connected to the lever at the clutch but it's almost impossible to see. Wired the battery too.

Wheels yet to add, need to scratch some headers as the kit ones were garbage (broken in several pieces each). Also need to add the Radius Arms and the Tie Rod.

Now that everything on the chassis is permanent, the upper bodywork appears to no longer fit properly. It fits nicely without the chassis and engine but there are gaps with it. Must be some interference issues I hadn't noticed. I'll see if I can correct those but if not, I'll just display it without the upper body.
