Not a Moustang III anymore
Needing something to do while the roadster is soaking in brake fluid, I started looking at this Mustang III that I bought to rob the engine from quite a while ago. Looked at an old roof section from the Mad Magazine funny car.
NAH !
My last surviving kit is a Revell Streetburner 55 Chev. I hate the look of that chop. I got the thing for the running parts. Anyway, with a little trimming at the rear, it appears to fit the Mustang nicely.
So, for now,at least, progress will be mainly assembling the chassis and engine from the streetburner.

Re: Not a Moustang III anymore
I have the roller now.
This is all Revell. A little paint, coupla engine details, and a simple assemble. From this point on the Geezerman plans to take over !!
However, I had planned for my mods to take care of the wheelbase, What I missed, was the fact that the Mustang's profile was way too low for what I had envisioned.
So, I will not be using the Mustang. Looking at plan B.

Re: Not a Moustang III anymore
nice roller. How about filling in the wheel well with flat styrene and then cutting a new wheel well around the front tire?

I did think of that, Buck, but still to low of a profile to do what I wanted.Zbuckster wrote:nice roller. How about filling in the wheel well with flat styrene and then cutting a new wheel well around the front tire?

Early '50s Chevy (I'd go with the aero look sedan) or early Vette. Dunno about wheelbase tho. Appears to be a fairly long wheelbase . . . Hmmmmm...?

Re: Not a Moustang III anymore
I am SO shallow !!
Plan "B" was to go with the 55 Sportsman body. However, There was no way I could live with that FUGLY Revell chop. So, I took 1/8 " out of the rear pillars !
Normally, on a chop with B pillars, I like to keep them in (it looks less like a cop out). But this got to looking so much better than the Revell Chop, I think I'll save it for a nicer build.
I dug out the trashed Frankenstien fiasco, and looked it over. With the funny car roof, this might be a whole lot better for the mess I want to create.
So, Frankenstein is headed for the brake fluid bath, and I'll proceed with plan "C"

Very nice work so far, Clay. I've never been much of a fan of this style of Mustang and I have to say that the '55 body on it looks sweet!

Re: Not a Moustang III anymore
While Frankenstein is soaking, I went looking for the funny car cockpit's windshield. Can't find it. Solution was finding a 49 Ford hood in the salvage, that had close to the correct contour, and shaping it.
Then using some clear packaging material and the Wizdon Parts Sucker, I vacuum formed a new one.

Re: Not a Moustang III anymore
Igor's not too thrilled to see this doggie back in the garage.
Brake fluid reminded me that I had pie cut sectioned this. I had forgotten !
Shows how observant I am.
Shouldn't be a problem.
Hay, Skid. Hid you get my PM regarding this build?

Re: Not a Moustang III anymore
Is it going to have a rear window? I was thinking an Oval one would be cool looking. I see Igor is still a happy camper.

All my bizarre plans for this , I hadn't thought of that!
I'll work something in.
