This should be cool. I will be following this one!
The pod race is one of the best parts of the whole Star Wars movies. I love it, and have watched it many times. Love the special effects.

Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
not been able to get to the bench for a few days due to stupid shifts at work but now im on rest days ive made a little progress
the engines are weird.......why make something in 4 quarters when it would have been easier to do it as 2 halves?
to give you an idea......they are 115mm long at the mo but still have got lots of bits to be added
the base is done.....sprayed it blue, masked off the design (which will match the design on the pod), sprayed silver, demasked, topped off with some clear coat

It's looking good Paul. It will be interesting to see how it gets mounted on the stand.

Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
todays progress
the pods put together......filled 'n sanded
engines had a coat of black and then silver.............blue band been added...........started on a few other bits
main prob with this kit is the paint call outs.........totally wrong....ive watched the movie clip so may times to work out colours .....ive sprayed silver some of the engine parts that will be the sandy yellow or red as my plan is to do the hair spray technique to put some wear on the edges

Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
With those engines you could do some great detailing and weathering! This could be one great model, congrats on one I didn't know existed. AND, do you mean they made more than one Star Wars film??!! I saw the first one and was disappointed. Never saw any more. Of course I said the same thing after "Dr. No", the first Bond movie. Shows what I know!

Re: Anakins Podracer, Boonta Eve Classic, Tattoine
getting there
still need to add the spill air doors and the air scoops
the air scoops have been painted with silver then had the hair spray trick done and topped with a beige colour (actually Vallejo wood).....wanted to try and get the weathered effect that appears in the movie.....had a bit of a strange reaction....the paint 'cracked' on a couple of the scoops.....found out it is all down to surface tension apparently but it sort of adds to the weathered look but i shall make sure the dodgy ones are on the bottom when mounted lol

This is lookin' great! Keep up the great work! These engines look like they could roar to life with the flick of a switch.

I am really enjoying this build. I loved the movie. If I ever see one of these at a show I am buying it. Keep up the good work.
