FLARING FENDERS: BY BOB PAETH

If you want an easy way to make a flared wheel opening, and have it as strong as the original opening, here's how:

With a pencil, draw the opening that you wish to make. Make your "drawing" about 3/16” smaller all around than you want the flare to be.

Take a wood burning tool or a soldering iron, should be a round type, and start to trace the opening that you have drawn, or rather working toward it. The plastic will "roll up" as you trace the opening.

When you reach the penciled in opening, STOP.

Take a flat file and "true up" the edge of the opening. All that is left to do is to wipe some body putty into the flare blending it into the body and sand the end result.

Since this flare is and always has been one piece with the body it will not break off. Make your openings round, oval, or squared off at the top, it’s your choice.

Hi,

Would it be possible if someone could add some photos of how to do this please, I sometimes find it hard to picture in my head how things like this are done, sorry...

Many thanks...

Andy...

Buck, I remember Bob telling me how he did that and it's a neat trick to be sure.
