Gee Bee Racer GB
Paul, Sam and I started this group build on another site fifteen months ago and the whole kit and caboodle got stalled.
So I guess it's time fo an update. LOL.
This is where I left off:
This is where it's at now:
The wings and fuselage have engraving for the scallops paint but they are so finely engraved, they don't even show through Tamiya masking tape........... so I went with my own paint scheme. LOL
So come on Sam and paul, get yours out again. Race ya to the stripe.

Great lookin' li'l planes! I have always been fascinated about how such a small plane could do the things they do. Can't wait to see more on these li'l machines. John bring it on! I wanna see what you can do with this kit as well. 8)

Great work on these awesome plane. I do agree that they are cartoonish! I think I remember reading some where that they were pretty dangerous to fly.

Ok, now that the bench is cleaned up, I have been spending some time finishing up the Gee Bee. Got the scallops hand scribed and painted.
Then I masked off the framework of the canopy and painted, then cleared the canopy and plane. I painted the inside of the canopy with Tamiya smoke so it looks like it was tinted. I should be able to get the decals and tires done tonight.

Re: Gee Bee Racer GB
Thanks everyone. For anyone who wants to build this cute little kit in the future, scribe the scallop lines before laying down any primer or paint. lol
Hope to get the decals done tonight.

Another Gee Bee Racer
Hi gang, I started the Gee Bee so here are some pictures of what I got done sofar
Kit, Testors
airframe with the wheel pants together and the tires painted
what I have together on the airframe
and I was doing some research on the Gee Bee's and found this picture of the R-1 (on the right )and the R-2 ( on the left ) :) If you look at them you can see the difference in the cowl's, the R-1 had a bigger eng. and a bigger cowl
The funny thing with the kit is it has the small cowl ( R-2 #7 ) with the decals for R-1 #11 so to make in accurate I will either have to make a bigger cowl or find a #7 decal and I think the NR # is for the R-1. Which way would you guys go, change the cowl of change the decal ??
Thanks for looking. John

Very interesting. It will be good to watch you modify the cowl, I am always up to learning a new trick.

I had to go look at my kit. I've got the same one, and they indeed screwed up. Small cowl and numbers for the R-1. The NR numbers are the ones for the R-1, the R-2 is numbered NR-2101. So the best course of action is to build the R-1. But the larger cowl will be a challenge.
What would I do? Build it as the R-1 number-wise but with a smaller cowl. In other words, I'd cheat. But I'm not a rivit counter or a JMN.

I'm by no means a rivet counter I just like them to look close to the real deal, I'm like this with cars also and I don't know why  and what is a JMN ??2whl wrote:I had to go look at my kit.
