1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 2+2
I have to say Pontiac Grand Prixs are my all time favorite cars. Eventually I will somehow aquire, build, and collect all the model cars that are put out on this subject. This is the first of three Grand Prixs I have of this Generation. This is the 1988-90 SE, my other is a 1991-1993 GTP, and the last one is a conversion project to make a 1994-96 SE replication of my 1995 GP SE Special Edition Coupe. I knew when I built this one I wanted it to be of a rare breed. So I looked through numerous pictures for days over colours on these cars. I even talked to a Dealer at the local Pontiac Dealership and found out that the Tu-Tone Red/Maroon was the oddest colour complilaton with colour matched wheels. So that's the one I chose.

Thanx Everyone. The Tu-Tone colour scheme was only offered in 1988 and 1989. Then it went to solid Maroon, Maroon/Silver, or Maroon/Gold. Update #2 Interior was painted Nutmeg Tan to simulate the 1989 Colour "Camel Tan" that GM had out on the Leather Seats. I also flocked the floor, added seatbelts, and did the li'l detail touch ups here and there.
The Rear "Twin Buckets" or 2+2 wasn't offered in the SE's but I wasn't going through the hassle of changing them....... this time.
Next up........ Engine. Enjoy! 8-)
After building this car. I found out there were about 100 units that were built as SE 2+2 Coupes. They were only offered from 1988 to 1990. 1988 having 50 units, 1989 having 35 units, and 1990 having the rarest of them all at 15 units. Most 2+2 configurations were found on the 1988 - 1996 Grand Prix GTP or the GTP Turbo.

Re: 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 2+2
Well it's on to the engine build pics. I wanted this 2.8L V6 to look like a daily driver. So I mucked up everything and added some diluted black to simulate oil and dirt. Used different shades of silver (flat, semi flat, and semi gloss) on various parts. Added plug wires, a li'l rust, and other various elements.
From here I started adding parts to the body to try and wrap up this build. I put BMF on the taillights then painted over that to bring out the turn signals and reverse lights. I did the grid in the taillights from the back with a sharpie pen. I also didn't like the BMF on the wheels as it wasn't right. So I did a very fine silver line around the lip to simulate aluminum.
Now it's on to the NMA's from here. Enjoy and thanx for following along! 8-)

I too was enticed to buy a kit at a show and your work is an inspiration. The "wash" of thinned paint works well on any areas of detail and raised or recessed spots, from interior to engine to underside. Thanx for many good fotos, engine especially!

Nice interior. The flocking job is perfect. This isn't something you see built every day and its nice to see one in progress.
