The Stratos, did he say 270 horsepower? Still, my fave of them all.

Yep, about 270 from the 2.4 litre Ferrari V6.

Pretty impressive, but when you are replacing an engine after every race how hard is it really to build that kind of power.

They were only lightly modified Ferrari production engines, they certainly weren't replaced after every event Curt.
The Ford Escort RS 1800 of the 70's had 280 from a twin cam 4 at 9000 rpm, which is still impressive.
