Some cool work going on there, Chris.

I got the body on the chassis, today.  OMG!  Tamiya instructions say placing the body on the chassis is irreversible and now I know why.  When I eased the rear of the chassis into the body, it still needed about 1/4" clearance for the front end to get into position.  I had to triple check whether I was doing things correctly.  The only way to get the front end in is to force/stretch the body apart lengthwise.  I swore the body was going to crack apart at the front spoiler, but there was no other way to do it.  It went in with quite a forceful snap - thank goodness nothing came loose!

Still a few more little pieces to put on here and there.

Thanks for your comments,
Mike

Great job Mike! Sharp build.

Working on the details of the build. Needed to add a spare tire to the Chevelle. Not wanting to just glue it on the back panel, I cut out a circle and made some brackets from scrap plastic. I'll be using the tires from the AMT Ford (Had 5 of them in the stash) ... slightly undersized but they will do.

Next is a light bar. Nothing in the parts box so I put this together with some extra junk with it mocked up here.

Nice scratchbuilding, Chris.

I'm finally finished.  A quirky little kit to build.

I did lose 2 small decals on the rear quarter.  I scanned the decal sheet, so I'll try to duplicate them sometime in the future.

Thanks for the comments,
Mike

Again, thanx! The last foto three-quarters view from above shows off the front hood scoop and decals. It makes for a great picture.

at last im at the decal stage.........3 put on, another 60 odd to go!

not the usual nice tamiya decals, quite thick and taking a bit to get off the backing paper then lashings of microsol to try and get them to bed down..........i think once all t big decals are on it will be easier

Quick update:

I am using the Revelle Corvette Engine (I don't have to fill the metal axel hold in the block).

I had collected these Rims for this specific build; I had seen them on a Maverick Desert Racer a few years ago and like the look. The inner rims were made by cutting the centers out of a set of scrap mags.

The wire in the center holds the spark plug boots I have drilled (waiting for paint and wiring).

Instead of the kits quick change (I'll save that for a street rod build), I salvaged and repaired a scrap box item.

Though not evident in the pick; I had to remove and deepen the spare tire mount (It interfered with the body).

I'll be sticking with the Firestone tires (from the recent AMT 77 Ford Truck release).

Thanx to everyone who made this group build so enjoyable for me. It makes me wish decades ago I'd finished a Ford pickup "Baja racer" and at least started an AMT (?) Pacer wagon as an off-road racer. Rally cars are one of my fave styles!

its taken me a week to get it on the chassis and put on a dozen decals cos they were the biggest and had to go round lots of bends.....used loads of microsol........theres 4 on each side that all join together.......now all the big ones are on theres only about another 50 smaller ones to go lol

Continue to pick away at details and tweaks.

I needed a fuel cell for the Chevelle; the kit has a drag style tank.  I scavenged a part from the parts box; it is mounted with two rails added to the frame.

Next, I wanted to add some detail to the radiator and add connectors for radiator hoses.  I cut the sides off the corvette radiator and added it to the Chevelle kit item for a bit added detail.  I always have trouble with the upper and lower radiator hoses (all thumbs).  I had some rubber hose (I'll add a hard wire inside it to hold its shape) on hand.  To connect it, I added tabs to both the upper/lower radiator points, manifold, and water pump. I filled a hole in the center of the radiator which was the mounting point for the upper radiator hose per the kit's instruction.

Lastly, the firewall had cut outs for inner wheel wells of a stock build.  I decided to fill these in with scrap plastic and milliput.

Nicely done Paul!

Continuing to work the details.

Mountings for the wheels were made from plastic tubing and the tires assembled.  I also roughed-in a transmission mount cut away from the cast away frame (extended with scrap plastic) I grabbed the gas tank from.

Hello all made some progress on the focus after the what seemed like endless decal sheet i went to clear over for a nice even fresh look (i know i know its a rally car and ive often left the clear off many of my racing machines) i should have followed my gut and not cleared because the ts 13 sorta ate up a few of the decals so it is what it is and got the chassis finished for the most part

Luv the work of the decals on the Focus. Those compound curves must be *&%$# to get smooth! Thanks for the good clear fotos!

Nice work getting the decals to hug down, but sorry to see the wrinkling, Nismor.

Just another reason I hate decals.

I've started getting some color down (canned Tamiya). Also, wired and loomed the engine.

... still a long way to the finish line but getting closer.

Some up dates:

Used AMT-Round 2's recent decal set ... they are awesome.

Decided to try my hand at a battery hold down:

Trouble in exhaust city ... the BB no longer fits.  I am taking the stock exhaust manifolds off and will be making some out of solder:

Decals are from the afore mentioned AMT set and some parts-box items.  Up next is the BMF:

Thanks for looking and to all those who make this forum possible.
