That is going to be a great build Mike. Looking forward to it.

The basic paint scheme for the body is done. Now for the real challenge, applying the old decals. I got lucky with the tires and wheels. Fingers crossed my streak continues.

That looks great Paul.

Condition wise, these are the worst decals I have ever worked with. But at twenty three years old it is to be expected. Taking a breather before I return to the passenger side.

Paul: Looks good - crisp and clean.

Cole: Nice paint work. Decals look good from here. The Fiat I'm doing is over 20 years old, also. I'll be giving them a couple of coats of Testor's Decal Bonder. It doesn't remove the yellowing, but it helps keep them from breaking up.

no idea how old my kit is but its taking a lot to get the decals off the backing, im having to let them soak in very hot water for a couple of minutes to loosen them off, ok once they are moving though

Mike: Thanks for the tip. The only US products I've seen in Japan are model kits(quite expensive), and I once ran across some Model Master paints years ago.

Paul: Not that it matters, but they often have the production year noted in the instructions or on the box. Best of luck with your decals.

Getting the chassis together here.

Made fuel lines out of fishing monofilament.

The way Tamiya made the distributor, in two pieces clamping down on the plug wires, it was impossible to make them look like they exited from the distributor cap properly.  Oh well.

And it even sets on all fours!

All of you are doing a great job on the rally cars !! Decals can and will be a real P.I.T.A. even with a new set.

Paul: If I recall correctly, I can begin another kit prior to 1st August?

That looks really good Mike. Great job of weathering the floor pan.

As for mine, just a couple of decals remain. The white decals in particular suffered the most with age. The white backing for the right front quarter panel was a total loss. For the white stripes and the Pilot logo, I cut out each piece and applied separately. I thought that would give me a better chance at success, although alignment became an issue. Just a couple of bits and decals remaining then I can start covering it all up with weathering.

WOW!  There are some incredible and inspirational work displayed here.

I know I stretched the "Rally" theme a bit; however, this is the closest I had in the stash and I wanted to join the frey.

Starting off the Baja Rally Chevelle with the front end, I was surprised to find everything molded to the frame.  Digging in the parts box I came up with this Monogram item I believe to be from an A-Body.

Let the carving and elevation begin.

Baja sure says rally to me, Chris.

Got the interior and figures together.  With the extensive decals supplied by Tamiya, I was surprised there were no gauge faces.  The instructions show both seated and standing figures with only the standing ones getting decals.  So I used the same scheme on the seated guys.  It required cutting up the Alitalia chest decal to go around the seat belts.  Also the helmet decals are difficult to snake into position being supplied in two large pieces.

I didn't care for the paper noteboard in the instructions, so this guy is reading a Chevy window sticker instead.

Thanks Mike and the Fiat is looking great.

Decided to go a different direction with the frame. I had picked up an incomplete Greenwood Corvette at the San Antonio show (missing chrome and tires); the frame was a great fit (just hope I eyeballed it right and didn't mess up the wheel base).

Yep, luv the Fiat. When I bought the kit way back when, it was my number one in desire. Never did get to it, alas! Glad you're building one.

Great job Cole!

Decided to use the Vette's L88 Hood for the Chevelle.

Minor tweaks to the frame ... had to remove the corvette motor mounts in for the engine to sit in the "traditional" location; toyed with setting the engine back in the frame; but for the sake of laziness I hacked them off.  To lift the rear a tad I added a strip of plastic to the frame.  The front lift is being done by cutting the molded-in corvette spindles and relocating so it sits higher.

Nice cut job on the hood scoop, Chris.

Me, I've just renewed my hatred of complex decals.  The 'A' decal on the hood covers over both the hood and the cowl areas and must be slit afterward if you plan to open the hood.  The rear green is the same way - the top fender decal also covers the side of the spoiler on the trunk lid and must be cut.  The abundant amount of glue behind the decals proved to be a bit of a PITA on the larger ones.  I spent about 15 min. trying to work excess out of the roof decal.

There's some paint touch ups here and there,

Glad it's getting close to the finish line.
