Great start! The amount of detail parts is stunning, looking forward to seeing this develop.

Re: SMS Emden - Revell 1/350
Got more work done on the deck area. The only areas that are wood covered are the central area and the small areas around 4 gun turrets. It's a shame, too, because the Chinese wood deck gives pieces for the entire surface of the ship. The bow and stern decks are a linoleum color.
So far a very nice fit of parts here.
Thanks for the comments,
Mike

Re: SMS Emden - Revell 1/350
More work done up on deck. PE going in, now. Also got the hull painted.
Decals are supplied for the upper and lower windows on the bridge. However the upper ones are more square and don't fit the molded windows correctly, so they got painted in.
Painted the red and white areas, but used decal material for the black stripe. Had to put a couple of stiffeners in the hull to keep cracks from appearing at the seam line.
Thanks for your comments,
Mike

Nice work Mike, it's all coming together nicely. Love the funnel weathering.
I wonder why the fore and aft decks weren't wood?

Nice one Mike, it's really coming together now. Looks like it'll not be long before it's finished.

Man that is looking beautiful Mike. Well done.
Are the railings P/e? They look a lot like the P/e set I have for my Warspite. If they are P/e do you have any tips on how to attach them cos they look way scary to me.

Remarkable in such a small scale. What a great addition to a collection or diorama!

Thank you, Al. The railings are PE. I prime and paint them first. They are bent to shape to match the bends of the deck, either in one long piece or several smaller sections, whichever is easier. CA is lightly applied to the bottom edge. A longer complex bend will probably stand by itself 'til dry. You just have to be careful not to brush against them with a stray hand movement.

Re: SMS Emden - Revell 1/350
Only the odd color combo puts me off. Everything else is museum grade. I remember seeing someplace (public tv model series or Y.T.) doing p.e. railings. It IS a touchy problem, and glue can get where one doesn't want it. Congrats on super work thus far!

Re: SMS Emden - Revell 1/350
That is a staggering amount of detail! As I mentioned in Al's Warspite thread, the saturation of detail for a ship model is a big draw for me and this certainly fits that bill.

That is looking brilliant Mike. One to be proud of methinks.
Thanks for the advice on the P/e railings, feel a bit easier about them now.
