Interesting that better shocks had caught on, despite the depression. The "worm and roller" steering seemed pretty common then too, even on many "sports cars." Good luck and have fun with the new full size toy!

I want to have a wicker picnic hamper on the back of Sissy but she doesn't have a luggage rack.

First I searched the web for an original pressed steel one............. some hope!! So I made one instead, based on a period design:

1935 Hillman Minx (1:1 WIP) - Page 2 00127

Still needs to be welded.

It will be held in the upright position by a short leather strap around the tyre and wheel rim.

At the moment, it 'flops down':........

.......... and I have yet to figure out a way to keep it in the horizontal position:

and I have yet to figure out a method of keeping it in the horizontal position.

the easiest but not the prettiest solution i can think of would be 2 small 90 degree brackets attached in those holes in the 'bumper'.,.......holes in the bit sticking out.........then two more bits on bar the same that you used for the rack to make the supports.....two more small bits welded to the second rod down........attached the bar one to each bracket so it works like a hinge.....then the bar will hand down when the rack is upright..........then you need to get the bar the right length sso when the rack is level the bar meets the little 90 degree brackets.....use something like a wing nut cos that might be more 'period',...need to think of something to keep the arms restrained when the rack is 'up'

hope that makes sense lol

Nice work on the rack. I have nothing to offer for the issue of setting it horizontal, seems to me Beowulf's idea is pretty good. Best of luck sorting it out and can't wait to see what else you have planned.

Thanks Curt and Kats.

Thanks for the idea Paul but those holes are needed to mount the bumper to. However, your idea of using wing nuts helped with the solution, which after a great deal of thinking, was quite obvious really.

The stays will have wing nuts to tighten them and when not in use can be left in the up or down postition.

Sam, the hinge nuts are chromed not stainless and the other are only temporary.

It certainly is Gary, it certainly is.

Well I'll be blowed.

I was just in the village after attending the 'Classics in Corbridge' car show to-day, when an old gent took that photo. Maybe I should ask him for royalties!!!..

Where did you find it btw?

Oh! and stuff the yellow liners. Been here 33 years and everyone parks there for short periods....... haven't they heard of 'custom and practice'. LOL

The show was great Shay. You would be in your element. Maybe you should come over for it next year.

Now, that right there, Sam, is sounding like a forum that I left where 'period correct' was the rivet counters mantra.
Being a 'from salvage' builder, where I had little knowledge of the parts I would use, that's what would tick me off !

This hamper / rack, is cool, Skid .

Nice rack, Al. ( I can't believe I'm saying that to another chap!) If you'd made the bars closer together, you could use it as a BBQ grill once you got there!
I trust all the nuts and bolts are ye olde Whitworth.

Thanks Clay. And as long as I have her, she will never be subject to a nut and bolt body off restoration, She will simply wear her age with pride. Totally restored cars lack patina and therefore character IMHO.

BBQ eh!! Bit close to the petrol tank Chris!!! LOL

As to the nuts and bolts.............. who cares!!! 1935 Hillman Minx (1:1 WIP) - Page 2 1792231099
