F-104 in 1/32 Empty F-104 in 1/32

Post by webby Fri 23 Sep 2016, 7:28 am

In response to Malayan requests for assistance during the ‘Confrontation” with Indonesia, the Australian government deployed the RAAF's 75th Sqn and their brand new F-104G Starfighters to RAAF Butterworth.
The first aircraft arrived in June 1964.
A3-42 is one of these aircraft. As the highest performing aircraft in the theatre, the F-104s  were tasked with air defense and air superiority missons.

A3-42 has 4 “kills”. These have been confirmed as:

MiG  17 (August 13 1964)
MiG 21,(Aug 20 1964)
C-130 (Sept 9 1964)
MiG 21 (Jan 26, 1965)

A3-42 briefly wore its 4 kill markings on its nose, before ‘higher authority’ ordered they be removed in Febuary 1965

OK, the story is fiction. Mostly. Google “Indonesian Confrontation” for the real story.  Here she is on a Spring day here at Lancaster St.

Shooting down a C-130? No wonder they removed the kill count.

The RAAF roundels are very cool.
