My '62 Impala build, painted last Sunday with Tamiya Mica Silver- straight from the rattle can.
Its got no gloss at all. Tried to polish one area, not much improvement.
So, my thoughts are a fine P1200-1500 sand then Tamiya Gloss clear.

Any other suggestions? It's disapointing, as the Tamiya mice blue polishes to a beautiful gloss.

Cheers,

Chris.

1200-1500 grit is way to coarse.

You need to clear the paint first then polish. If you have a fair amount of orange peel start with 2400 grit. If it is smooth start with 3200 grit.

Tamyia offers their own polishing compounds. I've heard good things about their polishing compounds but I have no experience with them.

I have buy all three of the Tamyia compounds off eBay, but it will be the end of the month before I have them. They are coming from Japan.

Silvers don't seem to take a polish as a rule due to the metallic compounds in the paint.

I'll go with starting off with 2500 and finishing with 3k plus... obviously wet sanding.

Then Lacquer, flat back wirh 3k and lacquer again..... lots of fine coats is better than few heavy as a rule
