Tug's cabin pieces appear not to fit great. Maybe lack of window material wasn't unusual in original kits, so in reissues it wasn't added either. A shame, but not surprising from model company cost accounting. Good luck to you in improving what will be a very nice model when properly made!

Nice work on glazing, Al.

That looks like a cool kit, Nige.  Lots of pieces.

Me, I'm getting started and treading lightly since it's my first modern ship model also.

Sprue shots:

And I saw these on ebay at a reasonable price, so I got a PE set for it.  I've worked with 1/72 aircraft PE, but these will either make me blind or insane.

Getting the two hull halves together required cutting the locating pins off because they misaligned them - probably because the joint edge on one half was a bit thicker than the other half.  Also added reinforcement to the joint from inside.

Mudded up the joint for smoothing.

These 1/600 parts are really small and these require some cleanup.

Moving along slowly because the White Ensign PE instructions show roughly where the parts go, but don't mention if the existing plastic must be removed or modified.

Still going along slowly.  After working with Eduard aircraft PE, these PE instructions leave a bit to be desired.  I think they assume this isn't your first ship model.

Here's the PE I forgot to include last time.

Started scoping out this tower.  Have to check pics of where hatches, doors and handrails mount.

There's 4 stairways up the tower here.  Instructions don't say which get hacked off and replaced with PE.  It appears there's more stairways on the model than what's supplied in PE.  Decisions, decisions.

I'm glad this CB is open-ended. LOL

Looking at the 1/600 scale P.E. parts, like looking for 1/600 needles in 1/600 haystacks! After your mental breakdown, let us know the address of the asylum you'll be recovering at.

Thanks Mike.

Boy! I don't envy you doing P/E in this scale!!!

Got the hull paints laid and the waterline done:

The upper deck is finished to and ready for paint:

Nice sharp lines, Al.  Coming along nicely.

I've been working on joint lines in the hull and still looking for detail pictures online.  Finally found a view of the screws for the Emperor of India, which was the sister ship of the Iron Duke.

Now I know how to fill those areas.

Also, this came in the mail today.  The Artwox wood deck. Very nice looking piece.  Now I have to sand off all the raised lines in the deck.

It seems an age since I've been on the site. I currently have three projects ongoing. BUT, will join in with something simple.

Getting along with a bit of constructive destruction.  Artwox included anchor chain with their wooden deck, so all this and the deck lines will be filed/sanded off.

And it's all done.  Some test fitting will be done as well as a bit of hull work.

The stairways on the tower will be replaced with PE ones.

So, the plastic ones had to be whacked.

Mods to the aft tower included adding some portholes where there were none.  Also added a PE watertight door and primed it.  Without the enlarged photo, I could barely tell it was there.

Around the corner, drilled in more portholes on both sides.  That stairway will get whacked.  On the big open space on the second level wall, there should be a large inflated raft, which is not included in the kit.  That's currently being scratched up.

Moving along slowly - so far it's fun.

With just SOME of the P.E. parts, the model will be a stunner. With most or all it would be astounding! Best of luck.
The tug is shaping up well and will be a truly great addition to the group build. This is getting interesting!

A little more progress here - and things are sure little here.  LOL

6" Gun mounts are in and blended.

This one needs a little cleanup.

PE hatches and doors going on.

Hull painted.

This is the stock rear funnel.

This is the stack modified per photos I found.

The lifeboats and launches aren't very detailed so I hollowed one out and added seats.  Probably will detail the others as well.

Here again.  A few of these tiny bits were missing when I got this, and a few more came off in handling.

Scratchbuilding ultra tiny bits can be tricky.  First I drilled some stock, then trimmed around the hole to shape.

Getting closer to installing the deck, finally.

You're really putting a lot into this Mike, and it shows.

Although the submarine is pretty basic, it does have some nice details. I hope I can properly bring out the rivet and weld seam details after finishing. There are 3 schemes available for this kit. I have chosen a submarine which was part of the Japanese forces on the island of Kiska, Alaska.
