I built this one several years ago. Although the decals might suggest Texas long horns, the cattle ranches around my neck of the planet are actually made of damp forests and foggy mountainous meadows. The cows have longer legs on one side.

I got lost in a forest following a ranch road and finally climbed straight up a hill in order to break out into the open meadows so I could find a land mark or two, only to discover the meadows were cloaked in pea soup fog.

This rancher's truck, Old Yeller, was all scratched up from the forest brush and blotchy where he sanded off bits of rust and sprayed it with a can of yellow. I hate to tell him I still see rust ready to break through.

Reminds me of military weathering! My instant reaction when I saw the fotos is cool, realistic! In sunny climates, very faded flat paint look is as much real as bits of rust.

That is an awesome paint job! I've seen farm and factory utility vehicles that had a similar look from being brush painted instead of sprayed, usually primer or 'anti-rust' paint swiped on over damaged sections of exposed metal. The subtle blotchiness is spot on!

You got it right! The decals came from a Johan Cadillac El Dorado decorated in Texas cattle baron style. The box art showed cattle horns for a hood ornament but no horns in the kit!

All these compliments sure put a big smile on my face!

Glad to hear it Ace..! I remember that old Johan kit well....Johan made many of my favorite kits, etc. was sad to see them go. I have several Johans I need to find parts to restore them someday. Love the weathering on your truck build...
