'41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
This was started 7-8yrs ago. I had heavy modified the chassis, I had used the engine set up from the Matt and Debbie Hays Thunder Bird. Over the years I revisited it a couple of times, I ended up getting too picky on what and how I was going about the mods, somewhere along the build I lost my way. Upon my final attempt to finish it I decided it was going to take WAY too much work to get it where I wanted it.the body needs lots of filling and sanding before the imagination take hold.
This is how it started life.
These are the colours I will use.

Whatever direction you go, I am sure the end result will be great!

That will be very colourful. Nothing like getting back at an old build.

Great engine conversion !!!
To be a picky old bastad, too much chrome ( I dislike chrome), Would have photographed way better if done with metallics. But great job in shoehorning that baby in there !!!

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
Thanks boys.
Clay, I totally agree with you on the Chrome. I always strip it off, that pic WAS ONLY a mock-up in the original build from 7yrs ago.
The engine/trans has been removed I will use it in another '41 Willy's build.
This is how the chassis sits now. Took me quit a bit of fiddling to get the right stance and redo the front clip. Given it will never be seen I didn't give a rats behind how it looked and how I got it done.

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
Lol, exactly Denis, we are creators and artist after all. We live in a fantasy world while we build these little creations of our.
Som have decided I d not care to spend the time required on the shell. It has been boxed and I have pulled another shell from the stash. Man I love having an extensive inventory to work from.
I will be adding some sort of hood scoop or velocity stacks and carb detailing. I really don't want to get into any real body work on this build. The "scoop" or what ever I settle on takes care of all that.
I found a big A$$ Dominator carb in the parts bin. I will make a simple mold and cast a second carb, and see if I can at least add some carb detail to the build.
I use refillable k-cups to hold parts when I toss them in the stripper. It works great for rinsing small bits too.
The shell needs the normal clean up. Should be onto the paint late tonight or after my day is done tomorrow.
Thanks form looking in.

I never worry over the 'sewer view' on any of my models.
I built a replica of my friends 41 Willys show street rod several years ago.
Way off the board here, but I have it at Rustbuckets if you care to look.

Thanks guys.
Max, did you know it was recently reissued? I am going to get a couple myself.
Clay, nice work man, looks really really close to the 1:1. Love the engine.
Never herd of that site before, looks interesting.

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
Those look awesome Max. The engine looks huge on the green one. You need to post them up here.
I am referring to the Matt and Debbie Hays Thinder Bird kit being reissued recently. My LHS has them in.

One of my all time favorite body styles. Hard to mess one up, IMHO

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
Thanks Buck.
Not much of an update, still cleaning up the new shell. Working on the hood/fender/door junction.
Also fitting the head light bezels.
I shaved the body trim, even took off most of the sculpting lines.
I am not clear yet as to where I will be running the masking.
Seeing as this is more of an exercise in learning/trying a new painting technique I want as smooth a surface as possible.

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
Thanks gents.
Still at the shell clean up stage, it is going in for the white base coat this morning.
The breather and carbs have been sorted out. Change of plans on the carbs and velocity stacks, the dominators were just too big, plus the stacks just look wrong. The white dominator is the
one I cast.
The traditional scoop and Carter AFB 650cfm carbs on a tunnel ram are my final choice.
As for paint, my head is swimming with the paint lay up steps and ideas.
My original lay up had me at about 25 steps if you include the light wet sanding between the 5 different colour coats and all the masking.
The idea I have come up with this morning adds a few more steps that are mostly tedious cutting and laying of the masking tape. I think I will be closer to 30 steps. Then of course all the normal final clear coat steps. What ever I end up doing will be colourful, and definately OTT in appearance.
Thanks for looking in.

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
Curt: In many cases Clay and I butt heads, but on the subject of chrome we are in total agreement. With models that have excessive chrome my first step is to reach for the Easy Off.

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
I totally agree John, you will ever see one of my builds with kit Chrome on it. It really kills the detail of the part and just looks cheap.
That bit of Chrome you see will be gone, no worries John, it's just a mock up.

That sounds like a pretty involved painting venture, whatever it is...good luck!

Thanks Denis.
I just ran through all the colour related steps, which includes cutting and laying the masking. It is going to take a total of 35.

Re: '41 Willy's Pro Street Curbside
The velocity stacks are huge aren't they, I think they are 1/16, but they fit nicely on the dominator carbs.
