41 Ford woody
Starting with my other Christmas gift.
My 2nd one.
First one, "Sonofabeach", resides in the Zimmerman Model Car museum.
Mild old school street rod, nothing garish. Just maybe shaved and dropped a bit. I think I will replace the flatheads kit FI with another old school item,Hilborn for flatheads.
I have a resin one of these. cast by VCG Resins off of a master I build way long time ago.
OK, we're off !!
OH, wait a minute. Igor spent a half semester in wood shop before he got expelled from Jr. high school. He says he can chop this top, AND section it too !!
We'll see about that !

Very cool idea. Sectioning always a fave of mine and mild chop makes it look long and low, even without lowering body. Good luck on what will be something special, I am certain.

Yes it is in the museum. And I smile everyday when I look at it., I find the idea of a section on a wooden to be awesome. Can't wait to see Old Igor pull it off.

Re: 41 Ford woody
This model sets way higher than I like. Both ends of the suspension are set up rather differently than I'm used to. I need to keep the floor board piece, So I unashamedly butchered the bejesus out of the front , just to get the stance a little lower. Probably would have been easier to cut the frame and Z it. But it is what it is.
The rear is something else altogether. I may have to go into the salvage yard to get a rear end with parallel leaf springs that I can use lowering blocks !

Re: 41 Ford woody
Went out this morning and looked things over. This first foto is how the rear end is very high using the kit's stuff and mounting points.
NOT ACCEPTABLE !!
Couple of fotos with the rear end setting right on the bottom side of the floorboard. This is where I would like the stance to be !
So this afternoon, I cut out the floorboard and this will not only be chopped and sectioned, but channeled as well !!

Re: 41 Ford woody
Even sectioning and chopping the roof is a challenge with that body design and being a woody. I dunno if channeling isn't complicating things too much. If you can get the rear suspension down without channeling, it would be easier. Of course I never had your skill, so...good luck!

Re: 41 Ford woody
Thanks, Harron, But, I don't think it'll be too bad of a job. Probably a lot easier than trying to cobble a new rear end where there is NO room for it.
Had I gone this route earlier, I wouldn't of had to butcher the front suspension so severely !

Re: 41 Ford woody
You're right, planning ahead makes thing easier in the long haul. With front end so low and rear so high, can it be channeled to work? I can't imagine the weird pie cut (?) the interior will need to get it reasonably level. I'd still do all that can be done with rear susp. and frame rather than fiddling with interior to make it to your satisfaction. Just my opinion, hope you can cut your way out of this one!

Actually, the floor pan sets pretty level. I compensated a teeny little on the channel. It went fairly easily. Here is the frame setting in the channeled floor pan.
And here is how they set together on the wheels.

Re: 41 Ford woody
Chop pretty well finished.
I went ahead and cut the hood for pancaking. Hope this doesn't bite me for doing it before the body gets sectioned.
