Mercedes Benz SLS AMG
My next project is underway. I'm getting near the end of the stash now so let's get motoring along with it.
The engine will be 90% covered when finished, but they've supplied a full engine so i'll wire it in anyway.
I decided to use cigarette paper to mimic the heat shield on the exhausts. I think it worked really well.
I've drybrushed a couple of greys onto the edges to try and bring out the details a bit.

Those "flat box" European Revell kits are rare here in the U.S. Midwest. That one looks especially good, with a nice engine and good lines. Have fun building it. Great work so far!

Very good start. The heat shield looks the part, in Canada the cigarette foil is now stamped with the companies logos so they're no longer useful this way. It's too bad much of that engine will be covered you did a good job on it nonetheless.

Re: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG
Thank you. harron68, this is an especially detailed kit as it has everything, opening doors, full interior, including headliner details (no seatbelts though), full engine, posable steering, full brakes and suspension even a super detailed gearbox which sits at the back. The only drawback I see is the front mesh which is just opaque plastic so i'll cut it out and replace with proper mesh, maybe that way you'll be able to see the engine through it. It even calls out for you to 'weld' some parts using a hot screwdriver.

Very cool. Love the foil heat shield, and the heat staining on the exhaust system. Great start on this model.

Re: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG
Very nice paint shading on the exhaust.
That engine is a coil on plug design so it doesn't have plug wires. Just four very very small gauge wires to charge the coil and tell it to fire directly to the spark plug.

Thanks A5h, i've already done it in Gloss Aluminium but i'll have to redo the bonnet as i've made a backside job of it. The weather will have to get better forst.

I know the weather feeling mate, when I been painting these last 2 days I seemed to be moving further and further away from the kitchen door coming back inside the house to hide from the rain. Fortunately the Mrs was upstairs so she doesn't know... Sssshhh lol

What's wrong with that? Looks like blu tack on the corners but you won't see that when it's built :)

Yes! Gearbox may have a second engine in it. Good to see update on this rare kit.

Re: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG
I really dig the cig paper, it looks exactly like the heat sheild material. Good progress and painting.
