Dave, the frond tie rod is a brass rod. The priming valves were some left over brass model ship belaying pins with a small brass rod 'lever'.the rest is One Shot sign enamel gold.

Dave, I spent many frustrating years pinstriping, fighting cans of One Shot paint. Trying to keep lids clean, skimming drying paint, etc. not to mention the waste. I don't know if this is a tip to anyone or not. I figured that exposure to air was what was messing with me. I NEVER take the lid off of a tin anymore. I drill small holes in every new one and screw in a couple of screws. I can take a can that has been sitting, for even years, and dribble out some fresh paint, as much as I think I need.  Replace those screws immediately. Works like a charm, especially now that I just use a small amount while modeling.


Getting down to the wire. I'm reworking Lindberg's ill fitting hood. I don't want to hide the engine work all the time, or leave it off to show, so, I'm going to try to have 1/2 of it open. Here I just thinned the edges to have it appear not so thick.

Nice tip on the cans Clay. I had an uncle who was a carpenter and he stored all his paint cans upside down so that air wouldn't get in. I was too afraid of a leak to try it out.

Love your Stutz and looking forward to your hood mods. Have you gotten into the kit? I know you weren't too happen when you opened the box. I find these kits to be more fun than the finer kits where you just shake and bake. If you can pull it off the is far more satisfaction. Of course I keep waiting for you to Clay-ify it in some wild way.

Very good tip and it makes sense if you put the screws back on right away for the paint provide the seal as it dries around the screws until they're removed again.

Loving the build up and having the hood half open will show the engine nicely while keeping the shape of the car. Keep it coming!

Mike. I try to thin the edges where ever it would show extra thick plastic, wheel openings, etc.

The Stutz is now finished just it time for my 2015 yearbook.
I'll try to get it photographed today. It's less than museum quality, but for Lindberg, that'd be a feat ! I had fun with it though, and that's the whole point.

Great tips!  I wish u well on the finish, and am thankful you went the extra on this one to make it authentic.  It'll make for a fine addition to what must be a superior collection!
