Re: Tamiya 1967 Lotus 49 ... 1/12 scale.
Front suspension is all together .... but .... another bit broke on it's own just after i took the photo.
The windscreen was just loose in the box and had some major scratches and nicks in it, i've polished the majority out but the deeper ones are still noticeable and won't disappear even with lacquer.
The rear roll bars fit nicely.
the decal destroyed itself so once again i had to paint the stripe, luckily i made enough paint up for any further decal mishaps
PE bits add a certain something to the radiator, shame the instrument PE was so poorly detailed.

Fabulous work Colin!
When you say lacquer on the windscreen, is it Future or something else?

Re: Tamiya 1967 Lotus 49 ... 1/12 scale.
Cheers matey
Tried it with future, pledge and hairspray ... non of them cover the deeper scratches ...
I could end up polishing the whole windscreen and lacquering ... it'll be a bit opaque but hey!
Or i could leave it as is and although it's a bit of a bummer it'll add a bit of wear and tear i suppose.

Re: Tamiya 1967 Lotus 49 ... 1/12 scale.
The real one had scratches too, I betcha! Painting a simple stripe is often better than trying to get a decal to lay down flat. PE parts always make for much improved look. Finally, not only are large scale thin parts fragile, but more so as they get old. Beautiful work in all other ways. You da master!

Nice work Colin.
On the windscreeen. I use Micro Mark polishing pads. They start at 1500 grit adn go up to 12,000 grit in nine stages. It does take time but they have never let me down yet and you wind up with perfectly clear glasswork.
Had mine about eight years now so they last too.

Re: Tamiya 1967 Lotus 49 ... 1/12 scale.
Well i'm going with Shay and Harron with the windscreen this time ... it looks good enough and probably more authentic with a few little marks.
Starting to see the light at the tunnel end now .... decals are going on ... very, very carefully .. they destroy themselves in water never mind using any chemicals on them to get them to conform .. i'm having to get them in place and then touch up where they've torn etc with paint.
I will be getting some of the polishing pads as per the link from Al though ... they look very good and i have many uses for them aside from modeling, so thanks for that Al.
And the upside to today ..... non of the front suspension fell apart or snapped .... yay, happy days!!

Re: Tamiya 1967 Lotus 49 ... 1/12 scale.
Finished faffing and touching up.
Not completely happy with the front cowling and body stripe not matching up even though i measured, masked, measured again, checked them against each other as a "dry" fit ...... then when the front suspension mishaps started to occur i think the "centre" was thrown out and the stripes are misaligned by .5mm or so ... pain in the posterior but I'm going to live with it for the moment ... i might just get some yellow pinstriping tape and edge the stripe so they line up but i'll have to find some that matches "as close as" to the colour first.

Whoa there matey!!! You are being far to hard (or should that be pedantic... LOL) on your self here Colin.
I think you have done a great job. Pat youtself on the bakc, esp. in the matching of the paint to the yellow stripe!!
If you find any 1mm wide in white, let me know please Colin, I could use some for the Petty Charger.
I have some fingernail stuff coming, so I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives.

That looks great Colin. Very clean.
I am always doing something in the 11th hour of my builds that screws them up.
I don't think you should be too upset about the stripe.

Colin, fantastic model of a great classic F1 car. You did a superb job on all of the details, and ended up with something to be proud of. Well done!
