PostSubject: Martin Baltimore   Sat 22 Aug 2015, 2:21 pm

why do i do it? lol

so looking through the stash for something to do i decided i fancied doing another old aircraft kit. i really enjoyed doing the Ilyushin even though i always struggle with aircraft, and picked out this

thik i picked this up in an Ebay bundle a long time ago.....appealed to me cos when i was a nipper back in late 60s/early 70s in the village where i lived the only options were airfix from the post office or revell from the newsagents......stuff like Frog kits seemed almost 'exotic' lol.....and when i saw this on ebay i knew that since it was a Novo kit it must be an ex-Frog one

ive just looked it up.....Novo issued this 1978 onwards which is bad enough but it was a new tool by Frog in 1963!!!!!, i wasnt even 2 years old!!.....so im doing a 52 year old kit with @35 year old decals in the box! why do i do it? lol

actually the decals look awful.....not through age but quality.....Russian decals dont you know......so im binning them and going with some generic ones from the spares box

Cool looking aircraft - looks like it was designed to carry quite a bombload.

Good grief Paul, if you weren't yet  2 in 1963 that means you weren't even born until after SWMBO and I were married.  Thanks for making me feel so old.

Btw,  that plane is going to look good.

yes, in RAF service it was only really used in North Africa so it will be getting the two tone brown scheme

time for an update

i hate masking!...........but its really satisfying when you peel it all off lol

took this pic only a few minutes after i did, its all very shiny but some matt will sort that out

as an aside, ive been trying some new paint out by Hataka, picked up the sets for RAF early/late european theatre and North Africa a while back....thought it the easiest way to get the right shades............this seemed the ideal thing to have a go.......couldnt get on with them, very thick and gloopy, hard to thin just right......ive tried water and isopropanol.......wouldnt go through the ab even with a 1mm nozzle!...............went back to Vallejo.....sprayed first time, no drama........so moral of the story is stick to what you know and dont waste 20 quid lol lol

Oh, I came late to this one.  I'm not crazy for the bold camo pattern, but a rare kit in any event and I now know Martin Baltimore was a plane, not a person.  Thanks.

Shocking lack of guns.  It looks better finished with decals to pull together the camo pattern.  I can't tell if there's an aerial wire, but the nose "glass" seems good, and that's a plus.  Thanx for showing one I never saw before.

actually it had 4 forward machine guns plus 2 in a turret, later versions had up to 6 more machine guns
