I have most of the BMF work done now, just the running boards to do.

They appear to be chrome with a rubber insert:

I'll BMF them, then see if I can paint the rubber portion!!!  1935 Mercedes-Benz 500K - Page 4 1578238153

I haven't gone over many of the earlier posts, but first "page" shows body color hubcap area.  The sad state of non foto-etched wire wheels with thick spokes is a reality we live with.  Painting at least part of the large chrome wheels would help reduce the chrome effect and make them look more 1:1.  All else is breath-taking thus far.

Looks good Al

Just use a fineliner, sharpie or CD pen to do the rubber ...

I've had luck with these Johan Mercs to lay paint down over the whole inner circle of the knockoff, then lightly rub with your finger to remove it from the raised star and circle pattern.

Al, could you flow a thin wash of black paint on the running boards? Or is the to-be-black area a raised one?

And that paint should come with a depth sounder!

Cheers,
Chris

That's pretty much what I did Mike.

That was my thought too Colin but it looked terrible when I tried it. Just going to leave them chrome methinks.

Thanks for the suggestion Chris but yes, it is raised.

AL, have you thought about decal stripes or vinyl for the rubber strips?

Thanks for that Gary. However, the chrome stips are less than 1mm wide so I don't think they would work. Be a real Royal PITA to do too I guess. Thanks for the link though, I have it bookmarked for future use.

No probs Al, the vinyl stripes go down to 0.5mm which I used for the stripes on Guy Gibsons sleeve.
Its quite a good shop though.
