Old wood panels
Old wood panels:
Mask off panels. Spray with yellowish base color.
Add darker (brownish) washes until you get the degree of color you like.
For older wood, (with washes), detail areas that may have gotten wet over the years. If you're really ambitious you can even carve out some completely rotted out areas and detail with dark edges, like old wet rotted wood

Thank you Clay for the info, but I have a question. How does the wash give you the graining effect? Is there wood grain molded into the panel that catches the wash? Or do you paint the grain with a brush?

Dave. in this example washes were used to enhance the wood grain molded in the panels. Some of the old darker 'wet' effects were touched up with a fine brush.

Thanks Clay. I'll definitely use that technique when the grain is molded in. Sweet.

Re: Old wood panels
Great AND simple! My only question is the paint. Is it water or oil based and does any one brand work best? The semi transparent look of the wash seems vital in not coating the yellowish (name?) base coat.
