How good is Revell 1/83 Mayflower?
I got the ship bug from the Community Builds. Thought of doing a pirate ship
then I remembered seeing a sailing ship, not expensive, by Revell. I also thought
of one that my mothers family came from Lincolnshire England to Salem Massachusetts
on in 1637 but can't find an Arbella so Mayflower it is. It looks quite good for a '60s model.
Any better ones in this price range? No way am I paying $100, the Mayflower is in
my price range at $24. Thanks---John

I had to go look to see which Revell kit I have....not the Mayflower....I have the Santa Maria, and it looks good. And you should be able to find it in that price range

I can only say the the two ships I have built were immensely satisfying. Altho they were Model Shipways, and a little upper scale than plastic ones. ( I was a little more solvent in those days)
I'm enjoying watching you all in the Community build.

Re: How good is Revell 1/83 Mayflower?
John, I've got a Revell H-366 Mayflower in my stash that I picked up at a garage sale. I don't know if it's the 1/87 one you speak of, but I wouldn't recommend this one. The vacuform sails are brittle and cracked from age. The hull has nice woodgraining, but there are numerous molding dimples in it. And the shrouds are the molded plastic ones that don't appear round like rope. The soft flexible, threadlike ones look better. From the Fine Scale Modeler forum, this is the simplified 24" version.
Hope that helps.
