Re: Tamiya Corolla WRC
Another update, the majority of the interior finished,
Next up fiddly dash board painting and the roll cage, I also need to get some more paint for the body, I used Tamiya racing white from a rattle can but it looks cream and I dont like it, going to grab a couple of tins of gloss white on my way home from work tomorrow instead.

Re: Tamiya Corolla WRC
Not yet Al, messed up the paint by trying to do door rubbers so I gave it a bath and that messed up too, need some more brake fluid.

Re: Tamiya Corolla WRC
Me too Buck, I did one car 3 times a few months ago trying to get the rubbers right, in the end I threw it in the bin and moved onto the next one
So I managed to paint it again after spending ages trying to get the old paint off without brake fluid.
Put the windows in and onto the decals next, not doing the rubbers though this time and meant to clear coat with the decals on but forgot and glued in the windows.. oooops oh well never mind, suppose i could mask the windows off and clear it after, we will see.

Re: Tamiya Corolla WRC
I'm interested to see how this halfords clear works out. I'm on the look out for a good clear. Tamiya's just doesn't cut it in my opinion.

So how did you strip it Ash, looks like you did a good job.
Have you thought of using a bullet point marker pen for window rubbers?

Re: Tamiya Corolla WRC
Sorry Al that's was to D re the halfords clear.
I used flash kitchen spray (rubbish doesn't work) then nail polish remover with cotton wool and cocktail sticks. Took ages but got rid of it all.
Don't have any marker pens which are thin enough to go in the gaps

Re: Tamiya Corolla WRC
What you are looking for is not a fine marker, such as that which you might use to get into car panel lines but rather a broad bullet point marker.
This is what I have used in the past:
You will have to accept something of a shine though as they all dry slightly glossy.
However, if you use a flat paint first, then use the marker and follow up with a clear coat, (always test that your clear coat isn't going to make the marker ink run before doing the model) you can then go over the rubbers with some Dull Coat with a fine brush and you will then have dull rubbers.
It takes a little practice, so try on an old body first.
