1969 Mustang Sportsroof
This is a copy of the 69 Mustang I owned for 13 years. It was nice outside, and I had put a new interior in it. These kit seats are wrong for my car but oh well. I gave the engine a duplicator restoration which is to say I cleaned it up and painted it. This kit has the 289 engine from the 67 kit...close enough. I never had a single issue with the 302 engine in this car.
The previous owner who had started this car had replaced some sheet metal underneath, and I finished the trunk and put a new gas tank in it. I also had it painted. The original color was Indian fire and sorry folks, IMHO a 69 Mustang Sportsroof isn't supposed to be brown... :) The underside was well driven. I replaced the front lower control arms, bushings and etc. I was one of the few people who had about the same money into the car as I sold it for.
Last but not least. The front end of this kit drives me insane. Its like the sad droopy version of the real car. Though I still continue to build it.
This is the real car.

Nice! And compared to the 1:1 the kit nose is way off. I'm suprised that no one is doing a new nose in resin. You've even got panel cut lines to mate it to.

I agree I would have thought someone would have done it in resin by now too. The MPC 69 has the correct body lines, but everything else is wrong. Wrong engine bay, cheap looking interior... Plus the AMT kit is really more like 1/28 scale so you can't put the AMT 67 chassis under it.
Thanks for the kind remarks guys.

This is really pleasing to the eye. I especially like the opening doors and trunk (something i've yet to attempt) for that is a good bit of masterwork you have done. I also love the attention to detail in the engine bay. The perfectly smooth paint job really finishes this job off nicely. Excellent job!!

Very good work! I agree that opening things up really is both a skill and helps make it real. Also, opening up the trunk makes it easier to get the Bondo into all the rusted out areas (as I recall)!

Another super nice build. You always amaze me with your skill of making the door and trunk openings look very realistic. Great job!
