Fred Lorenzen 1972 NASCAR Ford Torino (Darlington Stripe Added)
With a lot of stuff going on for me right now, I forgot to post this one a few days ago. Geezer moment I suppose. LOL
I found another set of decals on the web and apart from a slightly different arrangement on the sheet, they looked identical.
I was tempted to buy them but couldn't be sure they were from a different source.
So I'm leaving it as is.
Apart from the decal issues, the rear bumper no longer fits properly and I buggered up the Alclad too. Oh well!!!
LOL
The exhaust dumps are made from alluminium tube.

Shame about the decal issues. Good looking shelf filler.

I do not see a "Darlington Stripe".

Looks great, Al! I'm going to start a 72 Chevelle Stocker some time soon. I like that era...

Thanks Art.
I have a Chevelle to do too.... either as Tom Gloor's or Bobby Allison's 67 ride.

Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes..... so I had a go at the Darlington Stripe.
Roughed up the decals first:
Then I did some broad dry brushing practice on a piece of card. Everything looked good.
To keep the lines straight I held a ruler just off the body and ran the brush along that, applying grey first. Still looked good.
BUT, when I did the first pass with Tamiya Rubber Black, I must have not wiped enough paint off the brush, resulting in a great splodge at the the front. Quickly wiped away with Meths but the damage was done.
Did the best I could with the rest.
It can still sit in the cabinet with the duff side away from the viewer!!!!

Thumbs up from me too. I'd suggest a bit of weathering on the front is all.
To match the 'stripe' on the side.

Hi Al,
I think your being a bit hard on yourself Sir, I personally love what you have done with it, it looks like it was forced onto the barrier by another racer and held there to let another racer get ahead...

Al, I like it. I agree with Andy that you are being too hard on yourself. It just looks like it has been used in a tough NASCAR race. Looks great!

The Darlington stripe, known only to real devotees! I'll have to check the Web for fotos. Memory from old days had either a thinner stripe where bodies protruded or a sort of bang along rear quarter panel. Good times! Thanx for a real champion remembered with a rare model!
