I am in absolute awe, and envy! Whenever I see real scratchbuilding I can't take in all the talent and patience it demands. And I'm angry that this builder could never accomplish anything close to it. Congrats!

Re: Sterling Pike's Peak Race Truck
Well folks, this will be the last post for this model in the WIP file. It is almost complete and ready for the GSL competition in two weeks.
The chassis is complete, with the chassis fairings and rear fender done and installed. Here are some photos:
And here is a close up of the fairings and rear fenders:
And the views with the cab and rear roll cage braces installed:
And lastly, here is what the hood looks like with the side grilles complete, and BMF on the grille surround and main grille:
Only remaining work is to complete the hood with headlamp covers/grilles/nameplate/decals, and glue in the windshield with Krystal Kleer. The reference book for the competition is complete with the exception of a few added photos of the complete model. I am also in the process of making a foam lined box to carry this on the plane trip.
There should be good representation at the GSL from Skid's Place. Last I knew, John J, Art Laski, Paul (2whl) and myself will be there. A group photo will be mandatory!!

I saw the hood for this build at Model Fest yesterday. the workmanship is just excellent. Good luck at the GSL Pete. I think you have a winner on your hands. 8 years in the building.

Re: Sterling Pike's Peak Race Truck
Hey Mitch. Thanks for the comments! When I took it to the recent GSL in Salt Lake City in May, I ended up with first in the Competition, Road/Circle category, and then was floored when it took the Gerald Wingrove Scratchbuilding masters award. I was pretty much in shock for a while after that!
My wife and I are heading off in a couple of days for a vacation to Florida and the Caribbean. At the end of the trip, we are renting a car and driving up north, eventually ending up in Atlanta. I plan on going to the Southern NATS NNL in Smyrna on Nov 14, and displaying the race truck there. Should be fun!

Re: Sterling Pike's Peak Race Truck
I don't know much about those model shows. I have just recently attended my first one locally here in Louisville.
I can see why you won a scratch building award.
Your trip sounds great! I hope you do well. I'm sure you will!
