Black Swans Empty Black Swans

Post by webby Tue 02 Sep 2014, 12:05 pm

Thought I'd share this one. A family of Black Swans that live on a lagoon about 10 minutes from our humble abode.

2 parents & 6 cygnets. Hopefully they'll all survive, but that's unlikely. Foxes, feral cats & dogs and idiots will probably claim some.

They're lovely animals, nice to see.

Can you not sit there with a rifle for a couple of months and rid the world of some unwanted feral animals and in particular... The idiots behind the fact of them being feral.
The foxes just need resituating in a more suitable rural area! Black Swans 1705482731

The male is OK with humans. You should have seen him race over though when a pelican landed on
'his' pond !

I can imagine..... They're not the weakest of birds and can certainly pluck up some nerve when they have something to protect.
A labrador had its neck broken by a mute swans wing on a canal bank back in England some years back when it approached the nest site.
They need respect when they have eggs/young

Here in the U.S., swans are sometimes used to keep ducks and geese from "private ponds" and retention (of storm water) ponds. it is a shame most birds are pretty vulnerable on the ground, with hollow bones and not being as elusive as in the air or on water.
