What is the correct name for the little English car that is used for drag racing ?
Sounds like Angelica, Anjelica.
I google that and all I can get is some not-so-skanky women !

Re: Clarification
That'll be the Ford Anglia, Clay.
Over here in the UK it was built until about 1960,
and was known as the Ford Popular since the mid fifties, but retained it's Anglia name for export.
....now where do I find these not-so-skanky women ?

Re: Clarification
OK, Thanks Ron. Was able to Google the right spelling. So that appears to be what I have.
Might just try to reform this into a respectable street rod.

Re: Clarification
What you have there was called an Austin Devon over here, and were built as a 2 and 4 door saloons
They are a bit larger than the Ford Anglia.
My uncle owned one, and I have always liked it's dumpy styling.

Re: Clarification
Nice website Ron, thanks.
There had to be an A40 sport in the 50's section didn't there!
Got me thinking about a classic sports car again, there's a farm up here with one sitting part restored unless he's got rid of it in the last 2 years.
Tempting tempting tempting

Re: Clarification
A40 sports are rare beasts Colin, with only 4000 ever made.
Can't be many left now.
Doubt if there any bits left on the shelf for the aluminium body!

I gathered up a couple of them at the ball park last night, but they had to go back to work.

We would call it "tames" rhymes with "planes". You lot are the ones who bollocks up words.
And yeah it does rhyme with the river, the "tims" (or "tems" if you prefer). Go back to chain yanking Nigel.

Re: Clarification
Hope this is not the start of a verbal fight between Dave and Nigel...?
The reason we can communicate is because of a common language, regardless of how it sounds or spelt.
(yep, it is grammatically correct to use spelt over here).
Here in the UK there are numerous dialects, as in the US, and nobody in this country speaks like Royalty
- which I think is how most Americans think we speak.
I speak Yorkshire...occasionally missing out 'the'. - ie: 'Trouble with car'
and omitting the personal 'I' ....as in the first line of this post.

Re: Clarification
I've heard Thames as "Tems," so there's another variation. Somewhere on this site in the past I mentioned a man who did an around-the-British-isles in a minute accents. Many alterations and they go back to the early influences from travel, invasions, etc. The Beatles said the reason for much of their creativity was Liverpool being a port, with many outside influences coming to them. Thanx for the language variations. Days later I still can't get over that Rayettes foto!

Nope, just Nigel and me engaging in verbal chain yanking. Hopefully no one will be offended by my comments. I love travelling to the British Isles and really enjoy the differences between American and British English.
As to American dialects, it seems that they are disappearing with most people watching lots of TV and listening to music. Kinda sad actually. Much like the disappearance of so many of the region retail stores.
