1950 Oldsmobile Club Coupe -- CHP
Finally made up my mind. The next CHP vehicle I build will be the 50 Oldsmobile. The Patrol ran both the 1949 and 1950 Oldsmobiles. When finished my model should look similar to this.
I will be using the Revell 50 Oldsmobile Club Coupe kit to complete the model.
The kit is a level 3 so probably will take somewhat longer to complete than the 32 Ford Coupe I just did.
The first thing to be done was to remove the molded in chrome strips from the doors.
This is something CHP has done routinely to avoid interference with the door logos. For the logo I will be using custom decals created from art work kindly supplied me by Dave from Pleasanton.
That's it for tonight. I'll post progress reports as appropriate.

I have this one in my stash but will be doing the race version.
It will look good as a cop car though john and nice work removing the trim.

Nice work, John. I see the antenna on the left rear quarter, but is that another antenna on the front quarter behind the wheel? Monogram's '53 Chevy had a great looking spring-based antenna in their kit.

Mike: I've been trying to figure out just what that is. Agreed it looks like it might be an antenna, but two things keep me from believing that: 1. To my knowledge CHP has never installed AM radios in their cars. 2. If it is an antenna it is in a lousy place for reception. The vast majority of the guys who drove the early Oldsmobile are dead now so it is not too likely I'll run across anybody who can tell me just what it is. I do have a email off to Motor Transport Section in Sacramento to see if they know, but I have not had too much luck getting that type of information out of the Department. Just going to have to wait and see.
If I can't identify the structure then I'm going to leave it off. Rather do that than mis-identify it. Thanks for the tip on the 53 Chevy. I'll start the search.

That is a good kit. Goes together well and the detail is pretty accurate. You are going to enjoy the build.

I'll vouch for that. Nice clean build. Can't recall any issues, though that might be memory rather than the kit!

Not being a big car builder I've never seen this kit never mind built it.
The cars got all the nice flowing lines I appreciate in a vehicle, and am sure when you do your magic on it the end result will be stunning as per usual.
That is one neat job on the door by the way.

Made a bit of progress last night and this morning. Got the engine painted, assembled and wired.
Also got the first coat of black on the body of the car. The door looks white on my monitor, but it is only a light gray primer.
More later. As always comments, questions, criticism, and friendly ridicule welcome.

I was wondering how you were going to wire the motor as I figured the first time the plugs and wires got replaced on the 1:1 that they would just run them the quickest way possible and not under the "plate" across the valve covers. Great job! I like it! Keep up the great work!

You are right Jason. The plug wires on a 1:1 go under the "plate on the valve cover. It is a royal pain in the behind to get them done that way. I like the way John has routed them.

It was laziness on my part. Was hoping nobody would notice. Should have known better.

It looks just right John with just a hint of weathering.
Good luck at the dentists, SWMBO's agenda will be easy peasy afterwards!!

Got some more done yesterday. The interior is done.
It's pretty plain, but that is how it was. CHP didn't pay for any extras or "comfort" options. Plain painted black dash and trim, black rubber floor mats, plain gray upholstery, etc.
After putting in the work detailing the engine, I'm a little disappointed this is all that shows.
The first mock up showing the stance of the car. Personally I think the stance is right on. That's it for now. More as things get finished.

Good work on a well detailed kit. I had to look up "SWMBO." So funny after I got the reference to "SHE" book and Brit books and series "Rumpole." Thanx!

It's looking great John and has just the right patina for a well used cop car.
