New/old car in the family!
After a near-death experience on his big Kawasaki bike, my son has sold all three of his bikes now,
...including the Triumph Chopper he bought a couple of months ago.
In their place he has just brought home this '65 Beetle.
It's a California car, left hooker, ex-drag racer - but without the big engine.
I kinda wish I hadn't sold mine now.

That's a lovely old bug, timeless shape and sound, I've considered one often.
I like older "clasic" looking cars..... Hence why I'm driving a 15 year old Saab Griffin, having a 3.0 V6 turbo under the bonnet adds to the thrill though I must say.
It's quite spooky really as this is what I'm doing for the 60/70s drag build..... Same colour too

What a looker! Great color too! I'm looking at resurrecting a VW Beetle that I just recently acquired that needs tons of work. Gonna tear mine down to the backbone and build'er back up. Keep us posted on what he does with it.

63/64 by the plate too.

Registered as a '65 Al, ...used to have a 2.3 motor,
but that was changed for a rebuilt 1600 to put it back on the road earlier in the year.
Alloy ERCO wheels are as light as a feather - so he's going to have to watch out for potholes !

Great looking Bug, Ron. I was into the Cali scene in the late sixties/early seventies. Wish I still had mine now. 2 liter with 48IDA's.

Thems two nice cars, my partner, Elaine, uttered "ooh nice, I'd have the one on the right" and I agree, it's very clean and tidy looking.
Bit cheeky of the buyer to take credit for your hard work though,, although now we all know where it came from and the truth is out... Maybe some of the magazine readers will see this and acknowledge credit to the real creator.

Old bugs...don't see 'em much anymore. Yes, the sound is as distinctive as any engine!

Re: New/old car in the family!
I thought you would Pete.
I'll pop any new interesting photos on this thread when they come up.
It's good that my son's is a California car - with NO rust to deal with.
Although I miss my bugs, (I've had four) I don't miss the hours of welding in a cold garage that I had to do !
...now watch your shins on those T-bars !
- and thanks all for your comments !

Re: New/old car in the family!
Thats a BEAUTY ! I have had a number over the years myself, and would have another in a heartbeat. The last one was a '73 Ghia with a 1776, dual webers, cam, HD clutch pack, sub frame conectors and adj. gas shocks on all four corners. Loved how it picked up the left front when you dropped the clutch. I kick myself for getting rid of my '59 'vert and '56 pick up...

Hi Mr D,
First of all, I hope your son is ok and secondly, he has a great looking Bug...
I also agree with Colin, I hope someone who reads that magazine sees this and lets the VW world know who actually did all the hard work...
