Which configuration should I use?
Re: Mile End Garage.
The strap is a cinch to fix, it's the gap between roof and cover that's the problem.

Re: Mile End Garage.
Don't know what your plans are, but the cab roof looks like it's set up for a spare tire and a rack around it. I would think the gap wouldn't be very noticible with that stuff up there. Plus you could add details like you did on the tank.
The tarp looks really good!!!

Re: Mile End Garage.
No rack but definitely a spare wheel Clay.
Decided that a roll up tarp was the way to go. Made from nasal tissue and dunked (once again) in the dirty paint cleaning fluid.
With the After Market spare wheel:
With the Tamiya spare wheel:
Not sure which to use yet! Is the AM version a bit 'posh'?? What do you guys think?

Re: Mile End Garage.
Either way works just fine. I like the idea of the tarp and then put decals on the doors to advertize the garage. Just my two cents.

Re: Mile End Garage.
You're a genius Al!! But personally I don't like the sign idea. I think one of the rolled tarp looks more natural. Just my humble opinion.

Re: Mile End Garage.
Thanks for the very kind offer Ron.
That's just the sort of thing I'd like to be able to do.
I'd like to be able to design and print them myself for ongoing reasons but if with a little help from Colin, I'm still dumb enough not to be able to do them, I'd be most gtarteful for your offer.

Re: Mile End Garage.
Microsoft Word on my laptop doesn't have the distort and shadow facility that Colin is talking about, but my older PC does,
- so I fear later software doesn't include it, and you may be stuck with reproducing straight typefaces that you have in your font collection.
I'm just fortunate to have my sign software, but I wish I could print white.
Unfortunately, generally in the printing world you can't print white,
unless it is produced by silk screen printing or using a specialised Alps printer for smaller work.
Maybe Colin has an answer ?

Re: Mile End Garage.
Hmmmm. No clicky button then.......
If you click the "insert" tab, go down to "illustrations"........ Wordart should be in there......
Not having installed any office software since 2010 ish, I'm wondering if Wordart is an "optional extra" during installation nowadays, so far though every computer with word installed that I've used/fixed has had Wordart hidden away somewhere.
Edit.. Forgot to say.....
The only way to get white on the home printed decals is to use white paper, the downside to this is any clear/see through areas need to be cut out and the decal will need trimming right to the edge.
I think the last time I saw a printer able to represent "white" on a clear background was on a techy website and it cost an arm, leg and kidney.

Re: Mile End Garage.
Ahhhh.....found the icon - along the top under 'drawing' .....hidden away !
I know the lads on the Truck Forum pay out about £60-£80 for a set of specific decals for a truck cab,
which includes white - up to £140 for a full rig - too rich for my taste.
I can understand you wanting to produce your own decals under your own steam Al.
Even with my understanding of using Microsoft Word, it takes time and you'll only get the basics.
Scanning logos and text on a printer and saving it as a picture, then printing out to decal size will work,
but again - a lot of mind numbing jiggery pokery.
I was too quick to assume that brilliant decals can be made using Word - but it is possible, but with effort.
After several processes I have managed to copy these - probably not quite what you are looking for,
but these are from my sign computer.
To get the quality and sharp colours, (this is a quick photocopy) I would have to copy it to Word, email it to you,
then you could drop it into your Word files, resize and print from it ??
But as one old signwriter said to me some years ago :
'Computer Lettering is too damn perfect' ...and he was right.

Re: Mile End Garage.
They're quite nice styles Ron.
As an extra... I neglected to say that you could use clear decal paper and actually paint white on the model under the clear areas, this would then show through and look as expected.

Re: Mile End Garage.
Yes, the only options are print onto white decal paper,
or lay the clear printed decal onto a white background.
...but it does work either way.
Styles depended on how much cash the customer could flash !

When I had the graphics company in England I worked the other way and did whatever the customer wanted designing for 40 quid an hour...... Worked out nicely.... :-)

Re: Mile End Garage.
Colin and Ron........... I'll PM you in the next couple of days.
I like the second one Ron. Looks very period correct.
I gave the cover and the radiator blanket some washes then finished with Testor's Dullcote. I'm quite chuffed with the result. Have decided to go with the Tamiya spare wheel as apposed to the Legend Production covered version.
The radiator grille has yet to be painted gloss black.

Re: Mile End Garage.
Personally, I'm an advocate of hand painting signs.
But, not to digress, these samples from Ron are pretty cool.
Model is looking great, Skid.
