Zakspeed Capri
This should be a very quick build.
A fairly simple kit by Tamiya that was meant to be motorized.
I did a quick mock-up to see if I needed to adjust the ride height.

Re: Zakspeed Capri
Thanks Buck....I thought so also. I was afraid it might ride too high....it being a very early Tamiya release.
After I sanded down the mold lines, I shot some primer on it.

No adjustment needed for the stance. It's perfect.
Basic kit indeed. Are you going to add any detail?
Cheers,
Chris

No detail...just OOB...(I know....boring)
The body has been sprayed with Tamiya TS-14.

Re: Zakspeed Capri
If it was a 1/1 with that stance it would slide around the road like a baby learning to ice skate. Both Ford Capri,s and Cortina,s were noted for loosing there back ends on corners especialy in the wet.
That,s why I love them. If you are interested the engine should be a 3.0L Essex OHV rebuilt then rebored to 3.6L by Tickford + turbo,s a LSD rear axle and not much more than 5" ground clearance on the rear end (that bad on corners) and wheel being that wide ain,t just for show they were the only thing keeping it on the tarmac (about 12"-14" wide on the rear) on a 15" rim it,s wide. Last ones built were around 1985-86 era and top end was about 150- 160mph ish. Think there might be 2 left in England on the roads. Not 100% sure though.

Re: Zakspeed Capri
They would definately be a kick to drive !!!
I've been adding decals to my Capri. They haven't been the most co-operative ones though. They keep wanting to break apart. Also, they get a bleed through from the black paint and don't look as bright as they should.

Still lookin good though. Would a clear coat not brighten the decals up. Forgot to ask is it the original version or rerelease as if it,s the original the decals might be breaking up due to age.

Re: Zakspeed Capri
I think it's an original. Clear would only make it shinier. The day-glo yellow decals got dulled down by the underlaying black.
The chassis is done. Just waiting on the last decals on the body to dry.

Re: Zakspeed Capri
Great color combo! I've only seen it in black and this shows off the lines better. Only weak spot is as with so many race models, the body seems a bit high in front. Great decal choices too, thanx!

Looks beautiful in black, Paul. Too bad about the decals - I find that bleedthrough problem with a lot of white decals in kits.

Re: Zakspeed Capri
Translucent light color decals over dark bodies are always a pain. Only ways around are either use a second identical decal over the first, or paint the areas under the decals with light paint first. Only other option is to try printing a duplicate set yourself with store bought blank decal paper and a printer.

Re: Zakspeed Capri
Looks good Paul. Just a darn pity about the bleed through on the decals. ps the engine was only a 1400cc twin turbo 4 cylinder putting 600 + bhp out at 9600 rpm and 170mph how the heck they managed that I don,t know. But I will have to eat humble pie on it being a V6. Oh I bought one last night so Skid might have a Capri club forum on the go here. .
