As they say, whether the cage is "period correct" depends on what era it's for. I love the pre '67 'Stangs. Yours is both clever in engine work and not overdone in bringing it to race condition. Thanx for a nice treat.

Tthe Cross Boss looks good in there. Would it clear the bonnet if you removed the air filter?

That's Plan C, Steve.
I don't really want to spoil the bonnet outline with a nasty scoop, so the nice air filter will have to be omitted ,
and I will drill out and detail the Autolite set up - maybe add small ram pipes if there is room.

Progress has again slowed on the Mustang due to Signwriting commissions this week, but here is how it's going:

'66 Mustang Historic Racing Saloon - Page 2 0858cd00-9184-465d-bd1c-57f7ba80344e_zpsdd48f465

Cage painted (actually redder than in the photo)& Floorpan painted with scratchbuilt tunnel/rear tubs.
I need to finish off the interior detail: Shifter/Clocks/Fire bottles, etc.
The rear springs and axle from the kit are poor so I will use layers of thin plastic sheet to make new springs and find a decent diff.
I'm still trying to convince Mrs.Dadooronron that I need to spend £100+ ($156+)
on a digital camera to just photograph my models, but I think I am wearing her down.

You can get a camera for 70 quid in Tesco!

Any pics of the Mk2 Escort in the background?

The Escort must have been built about 25 years ago - Made by ESCI, ‘Eaton Axles’ version.
I was building it as a copy of a friend’s club car - but never finished it, as usual.
It was brush painted in Signwriters enamel (Keeps or One Shot). Using a ½” one stroke signwriters brush, it left no brush strokes,
had lots of pigment and the paint dried within the hour so didn’t pick up any dust.

Regards cameras, I know there are cheaper cameras out there but I’m looking for one with good DPI for clearer close ups.
Problem lies with Mrs.D., since retiring we now have a joint bank account and I can’t sneak any purchases through
without being interrogated.  When I had my business account it didn’t matter - that’s how I built my race cars!
(She’s not that bad really!)

Nice Mk2 Ron.
Hard to get these days, I got one eventually from Canada!

It's a Revell rebox, much sanding needed. LOL

Maybe something for the kitchen, sewing room or something she is interested in doing ( hobby wise )  '66 Mustang Historic Racing Saloon - Page 2 1792231099

I'm single so I don't have this problem but when I was married and my wife said something about my hobby I would tell her which would she like me to do

1. Go hang out in bars and chase women.

2. Come home with the kids and you and work on my models.

She would always pick 2. and then wouldn't say anything about for about a year '66 Mustang Historic Racing Saloon - Page 2 4233681232

Cameras were the least of my problems today - paint on the Mussy project being the biggest.
...Body all primed, flatted and ready for topcoat....new tin of Tamiya Bright Red, warmed and vigorously shaken.
..first squirt - splatter. (quickly find new nozzel). Second squirt - splatter!
Just as well I started on the bonnet - quick wipe of thinners and I was back to square one.
I’ve been happy with Tamiya before so I think this was just a rogue can.

However, a tin of Tornado Red bought from the local autoshop to touch up my VW Golf, but never used, turns out better.
It appears to be several shades darker than my car, and darker than I really wanted on the Mustang, but it’ll do.
Lacquer seems to be okay too.

Working on my son’s principle of painting the body first, so if it fouls up, time hasn’t been wasted on all the other build up
- I moved my cars out of the garage, covered the bikes, and had a session of painting several kits this afternoon
Not show standard maybe, but not that bad.
Phew ! Project Mustang continues !

The interior is looking real good Ron.

What did you use for the roll cage padding and cable ties?

...I’m afraid rattle-cans are my easiest way to get a half decent finish.
I do have a couple of small compressors and a few airbrushes that I use in my signwriting,
but there is a difference in detailing 2ft high lettering to painting small models to show standards.
I have to admit, although I have been building models for some time, I am still an amateur and lack the finesse of others,
and I am in awe of those that can add such fine detail.
With more time on my hands now, I’m hoping to improve with tips I’m picking up from this forum.

The roll cage padding is already moulded into the cage, Al, which I painted matt grey
- with strips of 1mm self adhesive black vinyl for the ties.

Thanks all - things have been going along all too well with this build,
and can't help the feeling it might all go pear-shaped towards the end, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hello ....Just an update on the Mussy...progress is slowly going on, and is in the latter stages.

Exhaust system to be fabricated
Foil around screens before fitting the glass
Interior door panels to be fitted
and looking for decent headlights....plus numerous little odds and sods.

it's all the waiting for paint to dry and cement to cure that mainly slows progress - but getting there.
