Thanks guys.

@ Chris......I see they got her up then!!

Gun turret is finished.

You will see in the first photo where I went a bit overboard on the 'light rust' but the great thing is, providing you haven' applied the pigment fixer, you can wash it off with thinners and re-do it.

Washed off and re-done with a little less 'enthusiasm'...... LOL

Weathering makes it genuine! These are the beat intergalactic soldiers and their astro-cycles. Expected heavy use and some age and damage. Thanx!
For the creature I like it with the front plate a bit more. Thanx for both!

The STAP is now finished. Just needs a coat of Testors Dullcote to take care of a few shiney patches.

I didn't like the crappy base that comes with the kit, so I cast my own from Lightweight Hydrocal.

I'm not yet quite happy with it and I think it still needs some more work.

I did some more to the base but somehow I'm still not happy. Calling it good though.

Base is plenty good, honest. It's better with the darker colors. Shrubs may be a bit too green and even in their overall look. Together with the figure and cycle it could win any local sci-fi competition, thanx.

I like the base AL. I do agree that the green of the bushes isn't quite right, but know that may be a camera trick.001

Thanks both and yes, the greens aren't quite so vivid in reality.

I still wasn't happy with it so I carried on and added some more:

It's all out of scale of course but hey ho!!!

Eleventh hour disaster..... well that's a bit strong but it's very dissapointing none the less.

I'm not sure why but there were some shiney patches after I'd finished the weathering, small nut noticable. So I decided to give it a coat of Testor's Dullcote.

I didn't have enough to hand so bought this:

The colour and consistency, is exactly the same as Testor's, so it must be the same stuff, right?

WRONG!!!!

Not only did it darken the weathering considerably but it also gave it a sheen!!!!

Not a happy bunnie.

I tried going over it with the little Testors I have but it doesn't bring it back to where it was.

Have done some more to this out of date build. Fill, sand, prime, repeat endlessly. Had to fill a gap on each side with some styrene strip.

Have discovered a problem with the decals, Revell have missed a  complete section, underlined in this pic.

Meant to go on the angled section of the left sub assembly.

Will have to think about that. The annoying part is that the Star Fury had decals 6 different variants, and they could not get them right in this kit for 1 variant.

This might go back in the box for a while, while I do some research.

Well, we wouldn't miss 'em. Maybe you could fudge with paint or if weathering, you could have some space dust or light damage or even just bare metal as if it is in maintenance or needs finishing back at the home base. The complexity of the build and numerous parts and surface detail makes some decals less important, tho it is frustrating in any kit!

This is my contribution to the Sci-Fi GB - The Star Wars Y Wing, a great kit from the Fine Molds company of Japan.
